Day Two and Feeling Good -- Too Good?

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 2 1/2 months out from surgery, and my experience was pretty much the same as yours. The surgeon visiting my room expressed surprise that I was moving around as easily as I was. Nothing hurt. I stopped my pain medicine and my anti nausea medicine on my first full day home, which was my second day after surgery.

As far as I am concerned, that smooth recovery made it even more imperative that I follow directions closely. I didn't have other reminders to keep me in line.

Day 3 of recovery here and I'm experiencing a lot more pain around my incisions. My stomach is also distended with gas and hard as a rock. I haven't had a "movement" since Monday so my dr. instructed me to start taking Miralax 2x daily to get things moving. He also switched me from Oxycodone to Duiladed because the Oxy was wearing off too quickly. I'm eating pretty well and am getting liquids down a lot quicker than they say I should be at this stage. I also feel "hungry" but understand I may be confusing my growley tummy with true hunger. Sounds like everyone is experiencing recovery a little differently.

I was sleeved on 12/19/16. It's helpful to read how for all of the differences that there are similarities. I didn't and haven't been very gaseous. And only one of my incisions concerns me. It's like the rest aren't there. I did have nauseous moments and vomited the first sip of shake. I walked well and then sat up for hours. I'm loving diet Snapple tea!!!!!!!! Scents have bothered me a bit but overall I am thrilled!!!!

Oh wait, hiccups. . . If I drink too fast definitely. I'm not sure that I've been full yet. LOL

I was allowed very thin oatmeal in the second week as part of my full liquid diet. Each surgeon is different.

I was sleeved on 12/19/16 and thankfully didn't have any issues except nausea a couple times. I feel like I'm starving to death. My stomach is constantly growling. I'm looking forward to oatmeal or something normal. When did everyone start using oatmeal? Second week?

@SleevedByChristmas I had mine 13 December. I felt pretty good! I have my moments, I get worn out easily, but despite all that I was able to get Christmas together for the family, work my 9 to 5 job AND even get in a couple of sewing jobs too (I own a sewing business on the side!). I think the GAS PAINS are the worst. I had hardly any nausea. The closest I got to vomiting was after I took my Cymbalta (broken open in applesauce). I almost felt 'too good' too! We're some of the lucky ones!

Good morning! You sound like me, iwas wondering where all the pain & throwing up was, by day 5 i was doing everything except driving YOU ARE GOING TO BE VERY HUNGER! PHYSICAL HUNGER, not head hunger! When you do taste a drop of food, it's going to melt in your mouth, no atter what it is or who prepared it! I did my 2 wk liquid w/ about 85% success , I skipped the puree & im moving on to soft solids, the intense hunger was killings me, im reading the post where people say thet not hungry & have to make themselves eat & drink! I be. Like, thats a lie!! Oh yeah get ready for the constipation!!! P.s try not to let any one cook or bring any fast food around you! Dont go in pubic for at least 10 days, the temptation of food is like the devil! I noticed sinc my surgery, just simply watchin tv , that 4 out of 5 comercials are food commercials! Look bottom line you may feel good but it takes time to heal! Be very careful & make good decisions within your preop diet! From what i hear, a leak can be life threatening!!! Im now 12 days p.o. & im ONLY 12lbs down & im on liquids & soft small solid bites, appx. 3-4 bites, & hiccups is the sign of fullness , also an over all back & chest discomfort & lots of heartburn! Get some women 1 a day gummies, u will look forward to one every day

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
