Help. 2 months post op new issue

Recommended Posts

Hi there. Ok 2 months out from RNY. I have followed every rule to a t. I'm down 49.5 :) pounds. Up until 2 days ago I would say textbook and going great. All the sudden 2-3 days ago I started having pain in my tummy. Constant contracted pain. It's a dull pain not to bad unless I try to eat. Everything I eat bothers my tummy. I can drink milk ok and Water but that's it.

Any thoughts? My first issue I don't want to over react. Thought someone here could maybe help.

Call your surgeon. Could be a lot of things, but better be safe than sorry.

check with your surgeon. Could be a stricture. I had two of them. Easy fix.

a stricture is just overgrown scar tissue. Sometimes it ends up blocking the entrance to the small intestine, so you have some pain when you eat and/or you have a hard time keeping food down. It's an easy fix - they just do an upper endoscopy and stretch it out a bit so the food can go through again. They're a fairly common problem with RNY - my surgeon's office said up to 8% of RNY patients get them. They almost always occur within the first three months after surgery, though. I had one week 4 and another week 8. Haven't had one since (I'm 18 months out now)

Are you taking any kind of acid reducer, like a proton pump inhibitor (protonix, omeprazole, etc)? I went off mine briefly about 5 weeks ago (only for about 3 days) started getting some tummy pain kind of like what you describe, and a couple days after I resumed that med, it went away.

I am on omeprazole. They suspect a stricture. We will see in the am.

Could also be an internal hernia, I had bad pain, contracting, 5 months out and that is what my surgeon suspects is the cause.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
