phlegm/stomach pain?

Recommended Posts

I'm a month and 1/2 post band and as of the last few days when i try to eat my stomach fills full of thick phlegm and my stomach seems to tighten to the point its very painful....eventually i'll throw up all the phlegm and feel better. This is something new and occurs as soon as the first bite of food is swallowed. The pain from my stomach tightening is unbearable but very different from the pain from a obstruction. The only thing that is different with me in the last few days is alergy season has set in for me. Its my first alergy season since i've been banded. I wonder if my alergies have any thing to do with this new condition. What are the symptoms of a slippage?

It doesn't sound like a slip to me, but I don't know what it might be. Have you talked to your doc about it since posting? Has it gone away? You can do a search for "band slippage" or "band slipping" for symptoms of a slip (I don't recall them specifically at this moment). I hope all is well, keep us informed!

i know this is an old link, but the exact thing happens to me with the phlegm. Im sure by now you found the cause. I assume its related to allergies. This is a real pain in the butt. Oh well, otherwise, I love the way the operation has freed me from caring much about food :)

Sounds more like acid reflux issues. I would talk to your doctor about it. You may need an anti acid as well as a slight unfill. This is quite common with the band.

Hi there! I had my surgery in February and I am experiencing the exact same symptoms plus some "gurgling" type of sensation. Eating is very painful right now and yes, there is a lot of mucus. I spoke with my doc and he stated that it was due to Allergies. It's really crappy......who would have ever thought. I live in a state where this may be an ongoing factor. Still encourage you to see your doc just in case it is something different. I am really curious as to how this can be treated.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
