Psychologist Exam visit today....cried like an itty bitty baby

When I had mine I was asked if I was physically, emotionally or sexually abused, like all fat people are damaged...totally pissed me off. I hate how a doctor would assume that.

That was never asked in my evaluation. I am so glad, I would have been angry and disturbed by that.

Why? I think that's kind of part of their job, to get to the bottom of why someone may be obese. Lack of self care is a symptom of lack of self esteem, and lack of self esteem can be caused by abuse. To me, it seems like a perfectly logical question.

I'm sorry it upset you but it is a standard question. I'm actually a therapist and I promise it is a routine question. Not that it's always the case but sometimes being over weight is a symptom of past abuse, especially sexual. For instance, if, as a child, you're sexually abused, a coping mechanism could possibly be turning to food for escape/comfort. Also, sometimes people subconsciously gain weight to make themselves "less desirable" to their abuser.

I hope all goes well for you and again, it's routine so nothing to do with being damaged . Good luck!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
