Mine took just 24 hours, even the surgeon was surprised. It's hard to get a surgery appointment in December because so many people, including me, have met their deductible and are trying to squeeze in a freebie before the end o the year.

By March you should get in pretty quick. Good luck.

I was pre approved before I even went to my first visit with the surgeon. That was in April. By July after finishing the program, the paperwork was submitted and approval was very fast. That was the end of July and I had a mid August surgery.

It all depends on the surgeon's office sending in all the paperwork and the insurance company reviewing it.......it's different time frames for most everyone. I suggest starting with your surgeon's office to find out when they will be sending in the surgery authorization request....then ask them how long your insurance company normally takes......most likely they deal with them on a regular basis and will have a good idea of how long it takes......good luck to you!!!

My insurance approved me in 3 days. The surgery scheduler told me that it normally takes about 3-4 weeks before they get back with an approval. I called to check on another claim 3 days later and that's when I found out that I had been approved.

Bcbs Illinois

It took a week. The delays were because of the surgeon office. It was two weeks after insurance approved before surgeons office called me to begin scheduling

I have BCBS Anthem. The approval came through 2 weeks after the paperwork was submitted to the insurance company.

As you can see, it really varies from person to person. Your practice's insurance coordinator will be able to best advise you on approximate times.

Good luck!

I just spoke with my surgeons office, she said for my insurance it generally takes about 2 weeks to a month for approval, but I am hoping that it will 2 weeks or less.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
