I didn't have a lot of pain until a few days after surgery when my pain pump was empty, I felt real pain. The meds helped and in a day or so, I was ok. Tylenol alone kept me relatively comfortable.

Remember your fluids and Protein drink, you will feel much better and be better able to do your walking. The longer you wait to get started the harder it is to get started. So start as soon as your doctor says so. My doc said the same day as surgery for a couple of minutes and 10 minutes 3x/day after that

I walked almost 1/4 of a mile today starting about 6 hours after surgery. Every time I got up for any reason I walked the halls 1-3 times. 27 laps around was 1 mile. If my pain meds were given on time I feel well, if I was not on top of it that was when she I had pain. That would be my one piece of advice. Keep up with pain meds in a timely manor. Thanks for all the support

Expect to be emotional. The weight comes off quickly and it's a whole new different mind set. You'll need to be aware of emotional eating because no more over eating when stressed etc. Protein Protein protein and Vitamins daily. Best wishes. Stay positive! I have no regrets- I never want to go back to a living hell.

post-307308-14813504790711_thumb.jpg

just had surgery on 12/8 in the afternoon. I am sitting here trying to figure out if I need to go to sleep or what I need to do. I just got my last dose of IV pain meds and antibiotics so I had them take out the IV as my hand is swollen as you can see in the picture. Did anybody suffer with their stomach contracting like a muscle spasm and it going into your back? That has been my biggest complaint so far. Everything here in Juarez has been fantastic I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

I loved to eat. Eat anything and everything. food was my comfort, something that never let me down. After the sleeve surgery eating habits change dramatically. I realized after surgery that the loss of my eating habits was something I had to mourn. I missed eating whatever I wanted. Fast food, beer, buffalo wings, pizza, Cookies. That part of me is gone forever. I don't miss it, but it was a loss and it takes some time to get over it. No matter how prepared you think you are you're still not. The change was so abrupt that I didn't know what to do. Now I think very carefully about everything I eat, when I eat etc. Eating is completely different now and always will be be to keep the weight off. I have been at goal for 19 months. The cliche is true that nothing tastes as good as thin feels. Wearing size 6 jeans feels a million times better than beer and wings.

Thanks for the advice. Right now it's so regimented so it's not too hard. I however am trying to prepare myself for the stages to follow. Love the cliche and it's so true.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
