Hey gang. I know I haven't posted much but I've sure been reading a lot of posts and it has sure been helpful. I'm on my way to the hospital to finally get this done and have to say, I'm nervous. I know everything will turn out fine but I can't quite convince my anxiety of this. Anyway, thanks again to all you have given pre-op advice and now I'll been needing some post-op advice and some support. I'm ready to loose this damn weight!!

Well Everyone,

Tomorrow morning is my big day! I'm really excited, I'm doing more cat napping than really sleeping, but I figured this was probably normal seeing how my adrenaline is pumping so much! I got on the scale yesterday morning, and with this clear liquid diet, I have already lost 11 LBS, from 266 down to 255. I can even tell in my clothing that I have lost weight. I know this is just the beginning of BETTER THINGS TO COME!!! YAY!! Task for today is to PACK my small bag for the hospital & big bag for my stay at my daughter's after leaving the hospital. I will do my best to check in with everyone BEFORE & AFTER and I continue to pray US ALL success on our journeys. Have an amazing day!!!

Had my surgery on the 14th. 4 days post op and have lost 4#. Doesn't seem like much but at least it is going the right way. I have not had any problems getting in my fluids or protien at this point. Still having some pain in the incisions, but no nausea. However, I think I am having an allergic reaction to whatever they used to close my incisions! There is a red ring around each of them, and they itch like crazy! No swelling, tenderness or discharge so I don't think it is infection. Anyone else have issues with this!

I had my VSG surgery on December 14th too. I'm having a similar experience with itching and redness at my incision sites, which I believe is normal. I have to keep reminding myself not to scratch.

I've been finding some relief by very gently washing my stomach with soap and warm Water.

Hopefully it will help you too.

Don't look back, turn the page, and let your next chapter begin!

Good luck Cary!

Your nervousness is totally normal, but don't worry because you're going to do AMAZING!

I was so nervous the morning of my surgery (Dec 14) that I had to be talked out of backing out by my surgeon, and now I'm so happy and thankful that I went through with the procedure. I've had no real pain, just a little soreness, and now since surgery I've lost 13 pounds.

Definitely keep us all posted on your progress. We can all do this!

Finally heard back from my dr. And he said i was having an allergic reaction to the adhesive they had used. Told me to take it off, wash the incisions, and cover them with bandaids. I did that, and it is helping. One less thing to worry about!

Hey! I think this is normal (but you could check with your surgeon to be safe.) my incisions were glued shut and they're a bit red around them and they're also so itchy it's driving me nuts! Lol. But, itching is a good sign! It's a sign of healing. Try your hardest not to scratch so that you don't get an infection. Maybe lightly tap them over your clothes (not directly skin to skin contact to reduce possible infections). My mom is a nurse and says my incisions look great. Feel free to post a pic and I can see if mine are similar! :)

Didn't notice this before I posted. But I'm glad you're doing better!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
