Have any one experienced people telling you you took the easy way out my surgery date is on the 21 of this month so I told a co worker and she tells me I'm taking the easy way out. How do you guys deal with that and how do it make you feel.

You are doing it for you, not for anyone else remember that first and foremost.

It isn't easy especially since weightless surgery is not a guarantee and you have to change everything for the rest of your life!

How you eat, when you eat, where you eat, how many Vitamins you take, making sure you're getting enough Protein.

It's better to look at it as a tool to your continued success at weightloss vs "the easy way out."

You will probably encounter this a lot, you just have to say it's your personal journey and how you decide to do it is up to you. You never have to explain your reasons for anything you do especially to a coworker. Good luck and I wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery!

They think it's the easy way out! There is nothing easy about this. I have lost weight many times just to add more back on. This is, has been the hardest thing I've ever done (gastric sleeve 10/12/16). Do it for yourself because it's your health, not anyone else has a clue what a challenge this is every day. I'm told it gets better with time and I'm counting on it. For myself, this is a tool to help keep me on track. I promise you I don't like the sick feeling when you drink too fast or dry heaves when you ate one bite too much. Or when you eat and it goes straight through you. I wouldn't recommend this surgery for the feint of heart because it takes strength and fortitude to get you through. Each of us reaches a point where enough is enough and then we decide what is best for me.

I throw facts out at them. Only 5% of Morbidly Obese folks that have lost a great amount of weight keep it off for 5 years or longer... the statistics for WLS patients is much higher... like 70-something %.

It is not the easy way out. Whether you have co-morbidities or not, the fact of the matter is this surgery gives you a tool to change your health. It doesn't mean you get to eat whatever you want, and it doesn't mean you had surgery on your brain - which is much harder to reign in than a hungry stomach. It means you are taking steps to make yourself healthier, why would they go against that?

Tell them you are doing this to improve your health with the best tool science has at the moment.

Then walk away. If they are someone close to you, tell them you want and expect their support for your health... if they are an acquaintance, just ignore them and smile.

Bariatric surgery in all forms is only a tool, not unlike Weight Watchers meeting, or pill that make you poo out the fat. We all have to change out eating and exercise habits to make get the most from the tool.

Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

Best wishes!!

If she thinks it's the easy way out, she should try it.

Let her decide for herself whether it's easy or not.

I have heard that, and my response was "Yeah! Why should I continue to struggle and fail the same as I have for the last 20 years, when I can take decisive action and perhaps save my life. So, sure, the easy way out is just right for me!"

I feel that if I tell anyone they would say that too. I asked my 19 year old daughter what she thought. She said Mom you need to do this and it won't be easy. I'm very ready to start my journey and I think I'm not going to tell people just work on myself.

I think you should let them know it's your choice. You are doing it for you and it is BY FAR AN EASY WAY OUT. When people say things like that, it's because they don't know and are ignorant (no offense to your co-worker) in this subject area. And that's fine, but the HARD part is being consistent. Not everyone is disciplined on being consistent. That is the hardest thing to do and it's a life long decision. Just my two cents...

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
