Belle's Mommy

You just had surgery 2 days ago - I don't know why some people here say that it doesn't hurt - HELL YA it hurts- when i first woke up it felt like an elephant had kicked me in the stomach and still had his foot on me. I was suppose to be in the hospital just over night but when the doctor came - i was in terrible pain from gas not the surgery and was afarid to go home in that kind of pain so stayed an extra night - truly could have come home that second evening as by then the pain was gone and didn't come back never had another pain shot after 7/18 around 2 p.m. - You need to eat, so that you can heal - what are your dr's instructions - i was on Soups clear & cream (no chunks) and i added my Protein powder - you must have nutrition... I was back at work on day 6 - but your port site will hurt for a bit longer (not bad but will be tender) As each day passes it will get better...:car:

Oxycontin - OMG that's some strong sh*t.... Have you called your doctor??? the only time i have pain in my chest (golf ball as we describe it here) is when I ate too much.... I had demeroal (sp) in hospital for the 1st day 1/2 and never had to use the liquid vicodin once i got home... I think you should call your doctor - if you aren't feelilng better by tomorrow... Hope it gets better for you...:car:

If it makes anyone feel better I felt like doo doo for the first 3 days. After that things got way better. My swelling must be gone now because I am able to "eat" (drink) a LOT more than I was at first. This is slowing down weight loss (I guess until 1st fill), but it feels nice to have a little more in my tummy. My doc has me on 100% liquids for 3 weeks. I can't wait for next Thurs to eat some real food!

Hello Teresa,

I was banded on last Friday as well (Sept 7th). I just joined the chat room today after doing a search for lap band support groups. I am soooo glad I found the site. I had my first post-op appointment today with my surgeon. I have lost 6 lbs between pre-op and post-op diet.

Overall, I feel okay but not normal. I am still bloated/swollen in the stomach area which is such a bummer. Everytime I eat I experience some kind of hiccup or quick gasp for air. Its weird. I do feel like the food I eat is sitting in my chest which is weird but I'm hoping that will go away soon.

Anyway, I look forward to hearing more about your progress as these days and months go by. Good luck too you!

Oh by the way...I too was a Caligirl (Northern California though) but now reside in the Sunshine State.

The only thing the pain meds do is knock me out. When i wake up I have te same pain. I can get about 2 hours of sleep with the meds. I am going to call him tomorrow if I am not feeling better. Husband thinks I am being a big baby. Im not sure i told you I was outpatient, I never stayed in the hospital. going on 3 solid days with no food, just Water and skim milk.

Hi: Good to see someone have the surgery the same date. I just found this site this past Monday, I really love it because I have people here that I can relate to.

I am experiencing the same as you. The liquid food seems to just sit there in the esophagus. My stomach is sooooo bloated, I feel 4 months pregnant (I hope this goes away real soon). I had Constipation and the port has some discomfort, but it is liveable. I also get a burp when I eat. Did youtake some time off from work? I still haven't seen the surgeon, I have an appointment on the 19th to get the staples out.

Keep me posted on your progress, maybe we can e-mail each other.

Another thing is that I HAVEN'T had a bowel movement. I bought "Benefiber" (have been taking it for 2 days, in my water)

Can you have milk of mag?

My Dr said it was okay, I didn't have a problem though afterwards. I was banded on Aug 7, It's been over a month now and I'm doing good!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
