Sleevers who wish they had bybass

Recommended Posts

I'm getting close to having all my appointments completed and getting ready to submit to insurance. When I started out I wanted sleeve but my surgeon told me not to rule out bypass, that I should do well with either. So now I'm having a hard time deciding. Do any of you sleevers wish you had the bypass?

I originally wanted and was approved for bypass but withdrew

Got scared

At my weight, bypass was best vut when I returned the surgeon really got to see the severity of my health issues...some weight related some not and felt the sleeve was better bc of my need for steroids at times and psych meds as well as narcotics which all don't process well with bypass so you really have to consider your health history and potential for health issues. The sleeve is showing nearly equal success anyways but if you have s High BMI it's just s little more challenging to lose a lot of weight with it as compared to the bypass

Thank you...exactly the type of feedback I'm looking for.

If you struggle with reflux or GERD, I would highly suggest the bypass. 9 times out of 10 it gets worse after the sleeve.

That is the one and only reason I ever regretted having the sleeve as opposed to the bypass. But it's controlled with meds, so no biggie.

My surgeon told me that the sleeve is just as successful for overall weight lost vs bypass it's just the sleeve hasn't been around as long so there isn't as much research available but in time there will be better statistics to compare

there are less negative possible side effects with the sleeve I felt

The sleeve maintains normal anatomy. That seems a good trade off for (statistical) slower and less weight loss. I plan to make the most of mine!

I had the sleeve because I didn't want to risk complications that can happen with the bypass. My surgery was October 17th. I never experienced gerd before but did have it rather severely for the first 2 weeks and strangely it was worse when drinking Water. That has thankfully passed. I have a high BMI but I'm ok with not losing quite as fast as with bypass. Maybe it will help with lose skin. I am determined to lose all my excess weight, not the 65-70% average predicted.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
