Anyone have their lapband in Detroit, MI?

Hi everyone,

I am scheduled to be banded on Sept. 18 at the Detroit Medical Center. I am a self-pay and it is costing me $11,700. My insurance would not pay due to my BMI criteria. I am 5'5" tall and weigh 224.

I decided to have this done about 2 years ago but after my insurance refused to pay, I started checking into self-pay and Mexico hospitals, etc.

I finally found this clinci in Detroit that is affilliated with a group of docs in Mexico. Has anyone out there had a band done by this group called the Michigan Obesity Surgical Specialists?

I am preparing for my pre-op liquid diet beginning tomorrow and I can't tell you how nervous and anxious I am becoming.

The surgery is supposed to happen at the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) but my coordinator speaks very broken English and lately I am starting to wonder if this is some type of scam.

Does anyone out there have any words of advice or encouragement for me...........please. I really want to do this but I don't want to get ripped off either.

Peggy
