I got approved by my insurance. I am 5'4" and I weigh 203lbs. I have lots of heath issues so I am going into this very positive and hoping that this will help me get to a healthy place in my life and maybe some of my health issues will go away. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, fibromyalgia and anxiety. Anyone had the surgery and had any of these issues improve? How did you know which surgery was best for you? Did you try to lose weight during the waiting period? I just bought auger free hello, fruit cups, salad, veggies, Water etc. I want to do my absolute best on this journey! Any advice, comments, tips etc. will be greatly appreciated!!!!!

My best advice is get started now! I followed a low carb/high protein/high healthy fat diet for six months pre-op (insurance required). I lost 99 pounds, re-established my relationship with food, and prepared myself as best as could be expected for the surgery and the life after. Everything about the surgery and the 35 days since has been easier because of all the hard work I did on the front end.

Best wishes!

Thanks for replying! I am definitely getting started now. My insurance approved me. I have been to my PCP for one visit. And I have my surgeon appointment next week. Which if you can't already tell I am super excited about. Yesterday I started eating healthier. I had 2 salads and today so far I have eaten egg salad, 1 can mt dew (otherwise I will get an awful headache), and for dinner I am having a salad and some brocolli and cauliflower. After dinner I plan to walk at least a mile. I am determined to give this my all. My heaviest weight before now was 184 and that was 9 months pregnant. So the weight I am now with the scale hitting 200 or over has me very not happy with myself!

That's wonderful...

You got accepted by your insurance first? I have to go through a bunch of clearances and nutrition appointments. I'm going to my last one on Friday and then they will submit it to my insurance. Best wishes on your journey.

Expect, or at least be prepared for, worsening depression. I wasn't prepared and it hit me like a freight train. Luckily, I have a standing appointment with a therapist. Most (not all) people experience depression and regret at several points in this journey. I sure do!!!

Just wanted to share - wish I'd known before hand. Best of luck, I'm sure you'll do great

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
