Conflicted about having surgery :(

Recommended Posts

I took out a loan to have my surgery with Dr. Kelly Ramos. I was all excited and ready to go and now my nerves are getting the better of me. I was going to schedule it for december but now I'm worried that I'm chickening out. I'm so scared of complications and of traveling that far from home and I'm just so panicked right now. Most of the reviews I've seen for doctor kelly are amazing but i good portion of them are pretty old. has anyone had surgery with him recently? Does anyone have any insight or recommendations? I'm panicking but I really want to change my life :(

Alex, as you know my hubby just had his Sleeve done in Juarez, Mexico. It wasn't the best experience for sure. He had looked into BARIATRICPAL but thought ifthe cost is higher maybe he is a better DR. Not sure why he figured that. I only wish he had went with you people. But when he got the phone call from BeLiteWeight, they mentioned this Dr. He was one they told him to stay away from. SCARY STUFF So glad he didn't go to him. The Suregon that did my RNY offered to do my skin surgery. Of course I didn't have him do it but he wasn't a PS. He has since then, hired a couple of PS in his office with him. In fact just because we had a problem with him I still went thru his office with one of his PS. Another kind of sad story. Maybe at another time.

I'm honestly scared to death. I'm having so much anxiety trying to pick the right surgeon and I just want to be okay. I just don't know how to know who to trust. :(

I don't usually comment on surgeons in TJ because of a conflict of interest but if I were you, I'd stay FAR FAR away from him. He's had too many fatalities and I've heard about a few other horror stories I won't detail. The surgeons in Tijuana have a nickname for him.....Killer Kelly. This past week he was caught performing plastic surgery, even though he's not a plastic surgeon. There are many many other great surgeons in TJ. Do a little more research.

Thanks for commenting on this guy. Is he the one that we had the go fund me project to help that lady go to TJ to sue?

My sister in law had a VSG in Mexico in May 2016. She has lost about 60 LBS so far and was really happy with her DR and Clinic in Mexico.

Good luck! Let me know if you choose them. Maybe we can try to schedule our surgery at the same time. I'm hoping for the 3rd or 4th week in Jan.

I haven't logged on here in quite a while, but I totally understand being nervous and scared to death to go to Mexico. It's worth it though! It's so confusing trying to pick the right surgeon for you. But I can say there are a few I would trust and a few I wouldn't. Don't make a last minute decision on who you want to do this procedure. I personally went with Dr. Zavalza and I haven't had any complications at all and I'm almost 2 years out.

@@kitcatsheart - I had sleeve surgery in Mexico in April 2014 with Dr.Garcia and will be having a mini GBP with Dr.Illan as soon as my financing comes through. (Due to regain and GERD.) I was on a call speaking with Dr. Illan's coordinator Henry about trying to schedule a date, and all of a sudden he says, "Dr. Illan just walked in; would you like to speak with him"? I ended up having a great conversation with Dr.Illan!! He answered my questions and made me feel better about my decision.

I suggest you check him out. This is my second rodeo so feel free to contact me.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
