I guess I couldn't see it because I see myself every day and usually I don't notice the changes. It's been a little over 2 months. And I'm down 59lbs and 39inches! I'm so excited to see where else this journey takes me!

It's really been an amazing journey so far. I panicked at the 2 week stall and thought for sure I was going to be a slow loser. I had no idea that once I got passed that hurdle that the weight would start falling off of me. I'm so excited to see how the next few months go. I'm expecting another stall and I know the weight loss will slow down but I'm still excited to see how it goes.

I have spent the last 15 years yo-yoing in my battle with my weight. I used fad diet after fad diet and never could find an actual lifestyle that helped me be healthier. For the first time I'm actually learning to make better choices and I'm building healthier habits. It makes the weight loss feel even better to know that I'm learning to change my relationship with food instead of hiding behind whatever diet I was on at the moment. I try very hard to keep in mind that the surgery was a tool, not a permanent solution. It gave me the opportunity to change my life but those changes have to come from me.

Reading stories like yours and seeing the progress you have made is really inspiring. You look great and I'm sure the lifestyle changes you have made make you feel great too!

Jess,

I completely understand where you're coming from. It is all about redefining the relationship with food. Truly, I've learned to use food properly. I acknowledge there's a choice everyday, every meal, every bite. I, too, saw this as a tool. I waited so that when I did this, I could commit not for the short-term, but the long-term. This certainly is no diet. And as cliche as it sounds, it is a lifestyle shift. There's no exit ramp here.

The beauty is reaching a point where the benefits far exceed any longing for days past-and I had them. But now, I'd never trade the life I have for anything. I think sometimes people don't reach that threshold before they start to give up or revert to former ways of eating. I've kept strict perimeters, but I eat a balanced diet.

I'm glad you found inspiration. It's still hard for me to fully process this 500 lb. person now lives in the 180's, can walk 5 miles at a time, enjoys flying, being active, etc.

So, yes! All the changes have lead me not to become someone else, but to explore new facets of myself that I didn't know were there.

I've enjoyed messaging and talking to people here. We certainly don't experience the same journey but it's nice to connect with one another! Support is crucial!!

Be well,

Daniel

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
