Mother had successful WLS but talking me OUT of mine

Recommended Posts

That was her issues. Yours could be completely different or be none at all. It varies from person to person. I have been lucky with no problems at all. I have taken no pain pills since leaving the hospital , had no issues with gas , and I've had no problems with not tolerating a food. I am 2 weeks post-op and have lost 38.2 pounds , 25 on the pre op diet and 13.2 post op. There is every chance that you could be more like me and less like your mother. If you think this is a good option for you and that you can use the tool appropriately I would go forward no matter what she says.

When is the last time Mom had her nutritional panel done. It is the single most importatnt thing you do following bariatric surgery.

Vitamins and follow up are life long commitments. I would definately ask her that question, it could simply be a nutrient that is out of whack.

I would take what your mom says with a grain of salt and have the surgery. She's a mom, after all, and doesn't want to see her "baby" suffer.

@@Malin Not telling you what to do..... but i gained 10lbs to be at a 40 bmi.... and would do it again. gain 10 to lose 100.... hell yess

You have to leave your mom out of this situation.... she is not you. You have to make your own choices... Every surgery is different and you may not experience what she is

I did too. I had BMI of 38 for 20 years. I let my beast off the chain a little and gained 15 to qualify. No shame, no regrets. 8 months out and have lost 100lbs. Plus, I ate all of my fav foods during the gain time and got the funerals out of the way.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. My surgery is now scheduled for December 13--the same day she had her own surgery a few years ago. After more talking she's decided I have indeed thought this through. She's now supportive. And now we have the same sleeveaversary!!!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
