I'm scheduled for the 17th - but came down with a cold on Saturday. Had my pre-op yesterday and they said if it's gone on my chest they won't operate. Am gutted. Came home from work today because felt so crap and hoping against hope that a day and half in bed will mean I'm ok by Saturday morning. Keep saying to myself, come on, it'll be 8 days since the cold 'came out' I HAVE to be better. Can't tell you how frustrated and sick I feel. I'd arranged it for the Christmas break to avoid taking time off work and they will be really funny about me rescheduling it in term time, but I can't wait til Easter!

So, some positive vibes sent on the ether to make those cold germs do one would be appreciated!!!!

So near and yet so far...

Also thinking, should I write a will... but really, should I?

Agghhh. perhaps some last minute nerves... not sure what worries me most having it or not having it

I had mine on the 13th December. I'm doing well. I came home last night (14th) felt groggy but ok. Uncomfortable with wind pain but honestly so far so good and no regrets!

Myfanwymoi, sorry to hear you've got a cold, I honestly believe the old remedies are the best, like honey & Water or lemon/ginger & water. I'm two days post op and I honestly believe the hardest bit so far is going through with it and the wind pain! I hope that helps

Well cold is under control and all set for seven am arrival at hospital tomorrow. Kinda terrified and excited all mixed together. Shopped for last meal and got steak medallions - nice n small, broccoli spears, squash, and this kale quinoa and edamame bean mix. That's the naughty one as contains butter. But, all things considered it will be small portions and the end of an era for me.

Here's to change.

Hi myfanwymoi, did you manage to have the surgery on the 17th then? It will be a week tomorrow for me! I'm still doing what I have since 1st day post op by making sure I have a Protein (30mg) shake (330mls) in the morning, blended Soup with some marvel (skimmed milk powder) added for more Protein and another Protein Shake later in the afternoon. They take me forever to drink but I keep sipping all day. I am glad to say the wind pain has gone!!! but I still find it difficult to breathe in as my left side has an uncomfortable feeling but at least it's not painful! 4 out of the 5 wounds are healing ok, just keeping any eye on the 5th one, hoping it doesn't get affected! I'm taking all my soluble Vitamins as advised, plus I'm taking lactose to prevent constipation!!! I hope this isn't too much inside info for you...how are you doing?

Hi joules... could rename yourself 'killer joules' when you are done losin'!!!

I'm good. Lying awake now waiting for valerian tea to cool. Only issues now are my very own storm Barbara blowing the winds in every direction, and sleeping on back.

Have decided to see it as an opportunity to retrain self to back sleeping but it is weird hard. It makes me cross not being able to flip to my tummy but also aware how badly this and side sleeping kill my back. Doc has said at least one more week till tummy so am challenging myself to be a back sleeper by then!!!!

Wounds are fine, weight is dropping and I'm eating tasty broths cooked by partner as well as Protein drinks, peppermint cordial (for Barbara!) and bovril. Not struggling with volume which worries me but then am not having more than a small cup at a time.

So all good.

Nice to hear from someone in similar place... xxx

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
