What do you miss or think you will miss about being obese?

Recommended Posts

I haven't had surgery yet but what I will miss is.. Looking younger than I am.. Being fat keeps the wrinkles filled in.. Also my skin being filled out.. After it I'll be very loose and floppy..

Seriously though.. I think the "habits" more than food.. Down the road you can have pretty much anything you want as long as it's in moderation.. My sis had surgery over 10 yrs ago n she does

Munky

I'm 49, and I look younger now than before.

Oh, and I miss NOTHING about being fat. Nada.

I would have ignored this thread and rolled my eyes but the way I'm feeling today... I think its right on time. So I will miss

Eating and Drinking at the same damn time.

Enjoying carbonated beverages (guilt free)

My "Big Booty Judy" Booty

Eating more than just 2-3 bites of food before I'm full.

Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits

pancakes with extra butter

Croissants warmed with a pat of butter

Spaghetti sandwiches with buttery garlic bread

Alcohol although I didn't drink much to begin with I definitely enjoyed an occasional margarita, daiquiri, pear martini, sweet red (wine) whether it be during lunch when the hubby would take me out or date night.

So... most of my misses are food related. CARBY foods were my poison. I will get over it. It's like a relationship that you know wasn't good for you-- happy to be out of it buuut every now and then you get sad reminiscing about good times.

Today I just had a moment although I always understood that for the rest of my life I would have to be very careful about anything I eat or drink-- I guess It just got real real for me.

Oh cheddar biscuits. Must find a healthy alternative. Those things are the best. Had my second surgery in 4 weeks today and have lost a lot of blood. Wishing I could have a hamburger, not for the junk but because I need some red meat!
Carbquik mix with garlic powder and cheddar cheese is almost identical.

Honestly... knowing what size clothes I wear. I'm still losing and all that. I hate, hate going shopping, and I don't think its just because I'm bigger. I think it more has to do with spending money on myself, I rarely do it. ANYHOW... I've bought a few things online... picked the size that I'm in according to what I bought last which wear a pair of comfy gym/sleep pant. I got a 3x the first time and they were falling off so I got a 1x and they fit - and that was before surgery... now the 1x is falling off, but I think those things are running big - so, I guess I'm going to have to get some extra money put aside so my sister will go shopping with me just to find out what size I'm in!

A good example is this... I REALLY want to buy this dress, but I have no idea which size to pick and I think their stuff runs small :(

http://www.sammydress.com/product3052592.html

Usually those sites have a size chart somewhere on them that relate say 1x to measurements.. Measure yourself and compare?

Munky

I take my measurements every week. Size charts are not accurate on almost any chart. Then if you lose and you are really squishy there are other issues. When you compound that with constantly losing, weekly. Buying clothes is a pain. I have so many cute things I have purchased and never even worn because I waited a week to wear them and they are too big.

I LOVE tbis post--its definitely an unpopular truth.

I fear losing what i call "my black girl" the coke-bottle shape ive always had--small waist, butt you can sit a drink on, boobs that make men and babies drool...LOL

Ive also been cursed with really skinny legs and ankles, so im not looking forward to them getting skinnier--i just pray that my thighs, which have always been big (my cheerleader nickname in college was "pork chop") will match the rest of my legs.

Definitely praying i get to keep my T&A tho.

Im also going to miss "junk food nights" with my girls: Wine, martinis, cheese, chocolate, dips & chips--we have a howling good time as you can imagine. Maybe i can have my martinis in a shot glass! LOL

That was actually one of the things I talked about in my preop psych evaluation. Culturally, black men appreciate a more voluptuous frame. When I was young and thin, everybody in my family tried to fatten me up. What most consider fat, we consider "thick".
"Thick" is definitely a compliment for us. Maybe thats an incentive to begin to build muscle to keep the good "phat"

Yes, complaining about things you missed while being obese is like complaining that the sun is in your eyes after being held prisoner in a cold, dark and moldy basement for years.

I think this is a very interesting discussion that brings up some different perspectives. Personally I talked about culturally how I thought losing weight would impact me during my psych evaluation. I'm African American and having a voluptuous figure is an aspiration for many women. I also know some people who are survivors of abuse and being overweight gave them a feeling of protection. Plus, there's always room for a little light hearted banter

So yes yes and yesssss. @@mschan218 get ready to lose it girl. I haven't lost it all but I'm only 4 months out too. I had a nice butt before weight gain but I don't think its going to hold up much longer. I had a 38/23/42 measurement in high school mid 20's it was more like 40/26/45. So always small waist bottom heavy.

@@losergrl75 my hubby met me in high school I was about 125 with those measurements. When we married 5 years later I was 125. So he's used to a smaller me... however he's really grown fond of BBW. I mean really. Like TMI his porn of choice is BBW. I'm afraid although this man has loved me through it all that I will not be as attractive to him. I know that's just my personal issue but it lingers...

You can make him appreciate the new you too girl. Just refocus his attention *wink*

I feel like I should step in, but I'm afraid there might be dog poo somewhere.

but uh could y'all both drop this, please, and not derail this post into a flaming war. You both have been rather helpful in your comments except for that brief stint. I've just ignored the crap and go to the next one, but y'all are making this thread about you now and gonna carry it out for pages

You are name calling and being negative. Learn how to carry on an adult conversation instead of becoming ratchet. This forum isnt for you if you continue down that path.

and you really have no call to say who this forum is for or not for. Everyone talks differently, the words may look the same - but with so many different meanings.

I didn't see the wet blanket comment - don't really care about it, but for you to point it out and make a HUGE deal over it - makes me think of a drama queen... just... stop. I like that we can have conversations here without everyone getting butthurt over every little comment. I quit coming for awhile because everyone was getting upset over everything.

Not getting butthurt over every little comment and not making a HUGE deal outta it, is being an adult.

all of that aside - I still hate shopping.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
