First of all, here's a virtual hug

I feel your pain. The early days right after surgery, I fought thoughts of what the hell did I just do. Water didn't sit well, couldn't drink any shakes, and had an unrelated infection. It got better.

I haven't really wanted to eat yet. I just know my sugar dropping so I need a few bites to keep me going.

I'm only 4 weeks out. I am 30 lbs down in that time which spurs me on. I felt better around the end of week 2.

See if you can find a local support group that can help.

I'm 8days post op now. No one ever told me the regret I'd feel. All I wanna to do is eat. food was my comfort and now I don't know how to comfort myself! Advice??

Trust me. You will find other ways to feel better... because you have to. You must be a very strong person to have gone through the process of obtaining your WLS. So you will be okay.

Whatever you do, don't attempt to eat outside of your program. I assure you that you won't enjoy the food, it won't taste quite the same and you could really injure yourself.

How you are feeling is not unusual.

You have just had major surgery. You will heal, you will figure this out. You will eat food again in time.

A counsellor would be a really good idea if you can access one.

There is an abundance of information here and there is always someone here who feels the way you do at whatever stage you are.

There is no "right" or "wrong" way to feel about your new body. Be nice to yourself right now.

I know how you feel, I've always been the one they call "Big Guy" and it's not a nickname I have enjoyed, I'm also not getting great support from my family as they are focused too much on the risks rather than the return, but we're working on that.

I'm booked in for VSG in December and I have written a list of reasons I'm doing this, kids, health etc.

I've also taken up one of my great passions again, photography and I've found that having a hobby has taken away some of the reasons I consumed food just because it was there, I was bored I suppose.

So in December I will right this wrong and I have enrolled in cooking classes as well to help me make more health conscious decisions and hopefully they taste OK as well

yes, I agree, use what support you can, I remember when on liquids after surgery, could not wait until blended foods, then I could not wait until soft foods, then I could not wait till 'real' food. But the discipline you learn at each stage prepares you for the next. And as the weight comes off , your excitement at what is possible starts soaring. You will have plateaus, you will get sick of the schedule of Water, wait an hour, food, wait an 1/2 hour to drink. tracking Proteins etc. But as your joints stop hurting, the scale goes down, you can do more. It will feel so much better, not to mention, decreasing you meds. YOU don't mention how old you are, if you are young, I think food may be such a social binder that you may need help navigating the issues. You can socialize without eating so much. Plus your life will have so much more to do and enjoy.

It's so hard...I am seeing a counselor and it helps. I'm learning new coping skills...slowly. it's a battle we face, harder on some of us than others. Hang in there, find support and give yourself a break. You can do this, it takes time to adjust. Give yourself time. Good luck.

I know it's hard with the limited energy that we have so early on, but try & keep busy. It helps keep your mind off food & head hunger. When you're feeling low, try and think of all the amazing things you can do once the weight starts coming off, and the reasons you wanted the surgery in the first place.

And I'd also suggest getting to the gym as soon as you're cleared to do so. Exercise is a great anti-depressant & doing a class opens doors to meeting new people.

I felt that way until today when I realized that eventually I will be able to treat myself here and there and the restriction won't be so extreme for forever.....and by then I'm going to have learned how to eat healthy portions and then be able to balance. Like if one day I want a bagel with full fat strawberry cream cheese I'll do that in the future. Maybe not the whole thing but I won't ever not have my favorite foods. But maybe 1 small slice of pizza rather than 5 big ones. That's how I'm looking at it. It may be looked down upon but I got this surgery to retrain myself to be able to eat like a normal person (healthy but has "bad" foods every now and then)

Hopefully, you will find other ways of "treating" yourself.

Once you have been without processed carbs, full fat foods etc that made you overweight in the first place, gone through the withdrawal process; perhaps you will want to take advantage of this WLS, this tool that you put in place.

pizza as you knew it, is really awkward to eat post op. Chewy bready carbs like Bagels and conventional pizza bases swell in your sleeve and sit really heavy in your stomach.

But there are lots of bariatric recipes for faux pizza and you could always substitute full fat cream cheese for 0% fat cream cheese with thin slices of fresh strawberries on melba toast.

Point being that restriction is a part of this process for weight loss but many "bad" foods are tiny and "slide" down your sleeve easily.

You could easily find yourself eating more calories than is allowed on your weight loss plan and start gaining weight.

Don't get me wrong, we all still want to eat foods that made us overweight in the first place, it takes time for our heads to catch up to our sleeve.

I have been working really hard on training my new system to enjoy good, healthy foods. Unfortunately, even at five months out, I am still struggling to eat well as my sleeve hates everything.

I hope that you can eventually see that other ways of treating yourself is better than using food, especially unhealthy carb and fat laden foods.

      Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

      2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

        I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

        I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation.
