Anybody 4-5 days out feeling hungry?

Recommended Posts

Is there a section of your discharge instructions that says how long for each phase? At 4 days out I started full liquids, which I was on for 10 days. If you have started full liquids, Greek yogurt is great to fill you up.

And Babbs isn't being a f'n DI@@. You just barely had major surgery. This isn't like weight watchers with suggestions to follow and you get 250 calories a day to splurge. This is because your stomach was cut and stapled mere days ago and is NOT healed. It cannot handle solid food right now, period. If you eat something you risk a leak, a stricture, readmission to the hospital...at the very least you'll be in pain. My program was very clear about these things prior to surgery and I knew what I had to do at at no point did I go against the plan, because I was risking my health. If anything wasn't clear, I asked. Call your surgeon's office and ask how long each phase is.

Wrong. I was sleeved 9/19 and I start soft foods Monday, which is 4 weeks. Not a week. You don't know how long your food recovery phases are and to me, that's a problem. They should have provided you those details. Call the office, that's what they're there for!

Keep doing what you're doing and CALL THEM in the morning.

Yes, head hunger sucks, but it's not an emergency. You told me in a message you were more interested in not having nicotine in your system than worrying about your post op instructions. I suggest you call your doctor and get clear, precise instruction on your post op diet and follow it to ensure you heal properly. This isn't something you can just wing in order to be successful. It actually takes effort and education.

Good luck to you.

And you might very well be allowed soft foods at a week out, I've seen a few people on here who were - but not many.

I felt hungry for the first 2 weeks. Head hunger, acid mimicking hunger...etc. It dropped up big time on day 16 or 17. There is a great video on youtube by Dr. Weiner about head hunger. Dr. Alvarez has a good one too concerning a swollen stomach and how affects you physically in the beginning weeks.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
