I dumped for the first time!

Recommended Posts

It was horrible! I'm 3 weeks out and had fish. I chewed each bite very carefully and for like 35 to 40 times but the bites were too BIG! Thankfully I threw it all up and all the PAIN and discomfort went away. Oh, my god, it was so horrible! And let me tell you, FISH is THE worst thing you could throw up! ugh! I will never make this mistake again! Only tiny ass bites for me!

Hi Autumn,

Try pureeing it first. I know I'm on full liquids through week 3, then purees through week 6. It may just be too early for you.

Ok....not likely dumping but I am very familiar with this happening and you are right it is from not chewing and it hurts like hell until you vomit it up.

As your tummy heals this should get better for sure. The size of what you can swallow improves over time.

That being said today is my two year anniversary and I still have problems if I dont chew well or if i eat too fast. It can lead to the need to vomit. It is the one thing that can ruin a meal as well which as time goes by you will realize that stinks because it means you end up getting hungry later.

It is all part of a learning experience. Many times there are pre-triggers before you reach the full dumping stage that clue you to the fact that you are very close. They can be sneezing, hiccups, excess mucous, a change in the way food taste. So clue into your particular pre-triggers to help you avoid dumping in the future.

Yeah, I know I chewed it well enough but the bites were just too big. Well, I know better for next time =)

That's not actually dumping. What happened was the fish did not successfully make it into your pouch most likely. The inlet to the pouch is only about 1cm. Bites should be the size of an eraser. Also suggested to eat with an oyster fork (tiny fork) to force tiny bites. Best of luck in the future!

I have tiny cocktail forks and spoons. Even plates. Even when I eat cottage cheese I still take eraser size bites. I had bypass on 9/14/16 and had complications so I've been in the semi soft food stage since week 3. Im still depending on my Protein shakes. I don't get hunger pangs and don't really feel stuffed. As soon as I feel anything like I'm full I stop eating. Been crazy. I'm worried I won't know when I'm full once I start eating solid foods.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
