How's your hell?

Recommended Posts

I am not sure what to make of things.....I am definitely not eating the same amounts as I did in my pre-band life. In fact, I am eating a fraction of the volume for sure! I'm trying to get all my Protein in with shakes, mushie foods, etc. I'm not starving but yet I'm not sure if I am ever full. Part of the reason may be that I am being very cautious....not wanting to vomit or feel ill. And, I'm NOT craving certain foods even though I'm still cooking favorites for my family. Since I haven't tried eating solid foods, I don't know if that will be "dangerous" for me. Tonight we are grilling out hamburgers and I'm contemplating if that is something I could eat....perhaps "mush" it up after it's cooked with a little basil mayo, finely chopped Tomato and fresh mozarella. Typically, I'd have 2 hamburgers with all the fixings on a bun. Again...I'm not craving that. I wonder if I even love them like I did!!!

But, with all of THAT being said.....I am wondering if I should be loosing more! Am I just being selfish? I mean, I am loosing.......not gaining (a new thing for me). But, with all of the cutting down I have done, one would think that I'd drop weight like crazy. Like I said....I have lost weight. Maybe I'm selfish and impatient!!!!!

I'm trying not to weight myself more than 2 times a week. I think I just better get my walking program in place today.....like I planned! That should jump start things a little more......right??????

I defintely get hungry but not as bad as my "pre-op 4.5 weeks of 300-400 calories per day liquid diet" hell. I get full after about 1/2-3/4 cup of mushies. I have managed to get myself stuck a few times already: eating cottage cheese/ricotta cheese/hummous/whatever too fast and too big bites because I am hungry. But all 3 times, I waited and it eventually went down. Ouch.

My doc told me to concentrate on healing rather than losing at this point (He said I might gain a pound or two but not to panic over it.) so he is pretty easy going. I get my first fill on 9/14, one month after my surgery.

I''m thoroughly enjoying this "hell," frankly. I'm not anywhere NEAR as hungry as I was before being banded (again), and just a little food makes me satisfied. The hardest thing is to stop eating before I take too many bites, but I know that is always my demon so it's not a surprise.

Happy here back in bandland!!! :biggrin1:

You have a very unique perspective. So, how does this surgery and recovery compare to your first?

Congratulations on your re-banding! :whoo:

This one was much easier, but probably only because I wasn't afraid this time. The first surgery had HUGE amounts of apprehension, excitement, fear, nerves, doubts, decision-making, etc., etc. all bound up in it. As much as I wanted it, it was scary and unnerving--and I had never had surgery to speak of before, too. This time it was my 3rd surgery, and there was never a minute's hesitation about whether I wanted it. Recovery was easy, and I'm a whole lot calmer about the entire process.

Ok I was so hungry last night!

The holidays are the worst.

I went to two barbecues back to back and man was I hungry!

I'll be two weeks out this friday.

I ate some mushed up chicken with mustard and a little turnip greens but the chicken was not a good friend to me.

I am so tired of Soup it's rediculous!

I am doing okay, I get to start 100% solids tomorrow <a href=Celebrate.gif" />

I am sure I will put on a bit of weight before my fill, but I am sticking to under 1200 calories, so I am trying to be optimistic.

HI

I was banded 6 weeks ago and I have been hungry this past week. I try to eat very few carbs so I won't crave...ie Head Hunger...foods that are not low carb and high in Protein. On solid foods, I eat chicken thighs, cottage cheese and fillet of fish and beef. Very small amounts of veggies so far. When I was on mushies, I ate lots of chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad, No fATcottage cheese, and a mixture of skim ricotta cheese, Tomato sauce and low fat muzzerella cheese baked for 30s in the microwave. I do eat 4 SF popscicles everyday. Only 15 cal. each and they satisfy my sweet tooth. Now I have no restriction and can eat any food I have tried. My first fill will be next week. I have lost 30 lbs in the past 6 weeks and I am thrilled with that. I hope things get easier after a fill or two.

Wow! You've lost thirty pounds! That is awesome! Here I am thinking , OK, 15 is good for not restriction! lol

I know the hunger has hit in full force. I can't say that I have been the best with keeping it under control either. two weeks until fill for me!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
