Hello All,

I had the gastric bypass on Aug 22 (5 weeks post op), and I have stalled several times since surgery (lost weight the first week, stalled weeks two and half of three, lost weight half of week three, stalled week four and five). I have lost a total of 18 lbs since surgery, but have gone up two lbs, and lost one of the two, and am pissed!

I am following my surgeons guidelines perfectly! I drink at least 90 oz of Water, eat 80-90 grams of Protein, stay under 800 calories (usually around 600-700 calories daily).... I don't snack, avoid carbs/sugars, and unneeded foods. I walk at least a half hour a day (usually more), and take my Vitamins. What can I do to make the weight come off? And what is up with all the stalls and weight gain?! I'm regretting this decision daily! I was able to lose a significant amount of weight prior to the surgery (HW: 370, SW: 248, CW: 230). Am I doomed to not lose?!

5 weeks out and that much Protein. That is impressive. Took me a long time to be able to get in that much.

Give it more time. It will come off. Keep doing the right things. 18 lbs is still a lot in just over a month

It looks like you crushed it prior to surgery! From 370 to 248 is no small feat, congrats!

Even post op, you will never lose weight as fast at 248 as you did at 370. I also lost the fastest in my first month (pre-surgery). Your body is burning a lot fewer calories now than it did 120+ lbs heavier.

That being said, 18 lbs in 5 weeks is still really, really good! I don't know what your goal weight is, but at that pace you will lose 50 lbs in a little over 3 months. I'm not saying you will lose at the same pace for 3 months, but if you did you would be down to 180 by year's end.

I had my surgery on 8/23, one day after you. I'm easily getting in my 60-90 grams of Protein and eat around 800 calories a day.

I've lost 16 pounds since my surgery. That's just over 3 pounds a week! I say your 18 pound loss since surgery is fantastic!! Congrats!

Just keep your eyes on the PRIZE!!! Remember why you had your WLS. Keep doing everything you are ( BTW that much Protein is awesome) it will happen for you!! Your body just went thru Major Surgery. Give it time to heal. When you are doing everything your body will catch up!! You are doing great!!

You are doing great. Expect to lose 10 pounds a month for the next five months and then five pounds a month after that until you hit your goal about October 1, 2017.

Weight loss is not faster after surgery. The difference is that you will have a tool now that will help you to keep the weight off as long as you work the tool.

A year from now it will not matter what you weighed on any particular day during the journey. It will just matter that the weight is gone.

My surgeon told me to try not to get stuck on the pounds. He said our weight can fluctuate 6-8 lbs in one day just from Water. He said concentrate on fat loss and BMI. You've done amazingly well. Hang in there.

Please don't be discouraged. Easier said than done. I had a three week stall week 3,4&5. I was disgusted upon my visit to nutrionist until she used her contraption that measurse BI. I lost 9 lbs of fat. Its equivalent is spprox 3lbs a wk. If your are not seeing a nutionist you can pick up a scale that measures body fat as well. Keep on keepin on! Its gonna come off.

The scale may not be moving but I bet your clothes will fix a little looser. You'll see suttle changes.

Did you realize as I will get more svelte I may get hit on? And I will have the strength to say

Thanks, No Thanks or smack their fool faces. Suddenly I won't be the fat lady in the corner, and flavor of the week at my age. Maybe I'll grab a surgical knife and help?

I stay away from the scale purposely so i can focus on healthier habits, even if i cant tell how im doing one day, another day i will feel the extra surge of energy, or notice the extra room in my jeans and it boosts my confidence. give yourself some time to notice these changes too, you are doing great

I'm struggling getting the 60 gr. Protiens are you supposed to get more than that?

Question= has anyone had to fast for bloodwork after the surgery? If so did it throw you outta whack?

Meaning. .. I had my surgery in May and got pretty much past all the nausea and vomiting but a couple days ago I fasted for some bloodwork and they took out 13 tubes of blood since then, I've been feeling sick, no energy, having hard time eating again everything makes me nauseas and hurts my stomach. What's wrong with me?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
