Hi, I had my surgery the RNY on 8/23 I am currently 20lbs down however now that I am slowly introducing food back into my diet however NOTHING is agreeing with me. If I eat solid foods know matter what it is within minutes I am in severe pain and throwing up. Any advice as to why I may be doing this?

if this keeps up, call your surgeon's office. It could be a stricture. I had two of them in the first 2-3 months.

After my RNY surgery, I was restrict to Full liquids for the first 4 weeks and pureed Foods for the next 4 weeks. It was only until Week 9, that I was allowed to transition to solid food. Since you had surgery on 8/23 that would put you at the 3 1/2 week mark. This is a little too soon to make the transition to solids. So I recommend that you take your time in this transition because it can be difficult.

I found that softer foods such as chili and Soups went down much easier than solid food such as steak and chicken, so therefore I relied on these to a large extent. They also had a lot of flavor. I have included recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

Soft foods such as grilled fish, egg whites and cottage cheese. Things as such

My post-op allows these in the pureed food stage in weeks 3 and 4. But they specifically say: soft poached egg, fish (moist and mashed with a fork). Cottage cheese was allowed in weeks 1 and 2. I'd call your surgeons office and get direction from them.

To kinda mimic what others have said, I was still in pureed stage at your point, not soft(solid) foods yet. It could be you're transitioning to different stages of food too quickly. At this stage, 1 meal should take about 20-25mins to complete. I wouldn't go 20 mins between bites, because after 20 minutes is when you stop eating all together. Since your stomach nerves have been severed and your fresh out of surgery, you gotta do the thinking for your tummy and keep measuring and dont eat longer than you should and wait to drink, ect. Treat it like a newborn child. Sounds like you really irritated the pouch. When I did that, I was advised to go back to the previous food stage and give my pouch a break. Try shakes for a day, hopefully that helps. Call your doc and let them know what's going on. I suffered with strictures, but you're pretty early out for that. Im no doctor, but it just sounds like good 'ol gastritis or just irritation.

Thank you all for your input I truly appreciate it. When I was released from the hospital I was on a full liquid diet (skipped the clear liquids) I saw my surgeon the other day he asked me how I was taking food I had told him I hadn't started foods yet. He told me to go ahead and start them so I have tried. But I agree maybe it is too soon. I go see my nutritionist today so hopefully she can give me some guidance. I will keep you all posted thanks again.

Hi, I had the bypass 8/29, and I've started this weekend eating solid foods. I think it's to soon because I feel so sick when I eat I hate the feeling & and painful. I do everything to keep it down. Also I use to like ice in my Water I realized now I like by Water room temperature. I'm loosing weight but I don't think it fast enough. When I started my liquid diet 2 weeks before surgery I was 227, day of surgery I was 218 I am now 201. My goal is 115-120! I do not like the feeling at all after I eat. I hope this was not a mistake.

17 lbs in three weeks is good. I lost 16 lbs the entire first month. Everyone loses at different rates due to a variety of factors (gender, age, metabolism, whether or not you lost a lot of weight pre-op, etc). I considered myself a "slow loser", but I've lost over 200 lbs over the course of my journey. If you stick to your plan, you'll get there one way or another.

I had my bypass 8/25 and when I started solids it was painful too. But I have learned to eat slower and have figured out when to stop. It's a process but trust me that uncomfortable feeling will pass and don't think u made a mistake! Give it time! Hang in there.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
