That is a bummer. Gallbladder symptoms can be upper abdominal pain (sometimes in the back too), vomiting, diarrhea, nausea. I only had pain and felt like I needed to poop but couldn't. I had mine removed under emergency circumstances. It's a very similar surgery (in terms of laprascopic abdominal surgery) as sleeve but not having sleeve yet - I can't say for sure how the recovery is different. Mine was supposed to be done outpatient but I needed to stay overnight. The pain before I had it removed was so intense that I don't even remember pain post-op.

I am actually shocked at how many people who have WLS still have their gallbladder.

I am awaiting approval for my sleeve, I am barely BMI 40, and I had my gallbladder out 15 years ago. Gallstones are common with being overweight, and I was not even that big back then.

Gallbladder issues tend to pop up after overweight people lose weight. It doesn't have any thing to do with the surgery, I had lost 40 pounds on Weight Watchers when mine started giving me issues, the same thing happens with Jenny Craig, etc.

Symptoms vary but I had nausea, some vomiting, and slight fever and chills. It tended to come about every time I tried to eat. BUT, the worst symptom for me was pain in my right side/back. It felt like someone was stabbing me.

The surgery is done laproscopic just like WLS. They make 4 tiny incisions, blow you abdominal cavity up with gas, and take that sucker out. My gallbladder was removed through an incision in my belly button. It was a quick and easy surgery with only small bandages on 4 spots on your belly. I did have some dizziness from the anesthesia and bad gas pains. If you can handle WLS gallbladder removal should be easy for you.

I'm 2 days post op sleeve and about a month ago I had a pretty bad gallbladder attack. It was decided by my surgeon that i was "healthy enough" to have both the sleeve and my gallbladder removed at the same time. As of right now, the pain/discomfort I'm having is associated with my sleeve and incisions, not my gallbladder. But everyone is different. I'd talk to your surgeon to see if he can do both at the same time, to avoid having to go under twice. Good luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
