Tried cottage cheese for the first time - help me jazz it up

Recommended Posts

I don't like it, but I like it better than greek yogurt (BTW, I like Dannon regular or lite yogurt). Both are basically pretty gross to me.

Phase 3. No veggies or fruit yet. What can I do with this cottage cheese since I seem to tolerate it. Anything to make it more bearable?

I'm not a fan of cottage cheese, but I'm forcing myself to eat it due to the nutritional value. Some people put salt and/or pepper on it. It didn't work for me, but give it a try.

Splenda, cinnamon, a few drops of vanillla extract. Splenda and a bit of unsweetened cocoa powder, maybe a dash of cinnamon if you like. Other extracts that you like. Torani or other sugar-free syrups -- a spoon at a time until you reach the intensity that suits your tastebuds. Savory, too -- mix in herbs and seasonings that you like.

Are unsweetened applesauce and pureeed baby fruits off the table, too? Any would help the cottage.

Eons ago I came to think of cottage cheeese as something to eat when I'm sick. Since surgery, though, I occasionally mix it with the applesauce as a snack.< /p>

For more savory - you can add a little pepper to it. Once you can add other items - some chopped herbs, a little chopped Tomato or chopped olive - keep in mind this all adds calories and carbs.

While on purees, I would occasionally add a teaspoon of unsweetened applesauce or no sugar added jam (again will add calories and carbs still). Once I could have soft fruit, I tried some sugar free diced peaches with it but then I didn't tolerate those well - looked at the label and the peaches had Monkfruit sweetener which didn't agree with me at all.

I like it with a little bit of garlic salt (California blend with a little parsley), or with some dried dill.

I love it. Sometimes I add salsa to it.

Note to self: I don't have to take this day all at once but rather one step, one breath and one moment at a time. I am only one person.

If you can't do chunky fruit yet, you could try a little lite applesauce or jam mixed in. Whatever seasoning you like for savory. Good luck!!

Mix in:

tzatziki sauce

picante sauce or salsa

an herb blend or Soup mix (make it like a dip)

cracked black pepper --- why no fruits and vegetables? Fresh sliced Tomato, cottage cheese, and black pepper is delicious in the summer

lowfat salad dressing

fresh herbs

Make a salad out of it by adding salad toppings

What great ideas. I will try some. Now that I'm back at work I can't do my morning egg. I hate reheated eggs.

I'm so jealous when I see others have vegetables and fruit so early on. I have to wait until phase 4 which is quite a few weeks away.

Add chopped smoked salmon - delicious.

I put sliced peaches "no sugar added" from the can on my small curd cottage cheese. When both items are cold, it almost tastes like ice cream. (I said almost.) But it's a good way to eat it and get some sweetness. Maybe add a dash of cinammon. Bon appetit.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
