My surgeon just called today and said I was approved and that there was a cancellation so my surgery can be scheduled for August 7th! I said that that would be great! But now I'm wondering if it's too soon! I read again in The Big Book on Gastric Bypass that the presurgery diet needs to be followed for a 300 pound person so that they use 15-30 pounds! If I follow the diet to a T, I won't be able to lose that much! Do you think this is ok? I mean, my surgeon obviously does and he got 5 out of 5 stars. So idk what to do

I would call your surgeon tomorrow and let him know of your concern. I am sure he doesn't want to do anything that wouldn't be good for you. But in the end, if you aren't comfortable, you make the decision.

I lost 13lbs in 10 days following the liquid plan. Your surgeon is likely comfortable with this but the question is are you?

I would call them and ask your question directly just to give you peace of mind.

Honestly, many surgeons require the liquid diet for a much shorter period of time than mine.

Then again, I met my plastic surgeon on Monday and had my Brachioplasty on Thursday. Had I had the chance to have my bypass long before I did I would have jumped at the chance.

That's just me but I have had a lot of surgeries in my life so I was comfortable with it which is what matters. Are you comfortable? If not, take the original date.

Remember, not all surgeons require the pre-op diet.

I lost 10. That is just so your liver can shrink. It's easier for him to move around and get to the stomach. Just make sure you don't gain

I lost five, and stalled for 1/2 year.

The docs at the mayo Clinic were cool with it.

They took my measurements too and could see the changes.

They said everyone is different, not to worry.

But OK, I worried.

And I said, I've worked so hard,

and done the five damn journals,

and seen the shrink,

and exercised like a hamster on a wheel,

and I am not loosing weight!

That has happened so many times before.

What if I go ahead and do this and it doesn't work?

And they said, "IT WILL WORK."

And it did.

the pre op diet is more used to shrink the liver than lose weight. unless you are severely overweight (think 500-600 pounds) then you need to lose weight to make the surgery and anesthesia safer. if you are not that heavy then the pre op diet is for liver shrinking so the surgeon doesn't have to manipulate it as much. once you have been approved for surgery then usually your surgeon doesn't require a specific amount of weight loss, they just have to know that you are going to do your part after the surgery. again, ideally if you're following the diet then you should lose weight but the main goal is to shrink the liver. best of luck! i can't even submit to insurance until jan 2017 :( i have to do the 6 month physician supervised diet first and i just started month 2

Have to say I was super happy to see this because I actually gained a little weight and then lost some of what I gained and even with diet and exercise and weight loss meds I lost nothing... Its good to see that even under similar circumstances it DOES work :)

my understanding in the purpose of the diet is to prepare your liver, reducing the size of it so that is less likely to be in the way and get nicked. i would definately vocalize your concerns.

So just 5 days of 2 Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch and a Protein dinner and then 3 days of the clear liquid diet is good enough to shrink my liver?

And hon, those remaining 4 months will go by quick! I tried to get the Lapband in '12 (it was perforated and had to be taken out he very next day) and the 6 months of dr visits went by very fast! It will be here before you know it.

I'm rooting for you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
