Hiraeth, sending prayers your way. Hoping your Mom might be able to help you out. The good thing is you will eat less, and need less food. BTW the hospital could have been put on hold, like send me a bill!!!!!!! Best wishes, you will be okay!

I'm 10 days post op & having some sort of unknown complication (?) pain & bloating at my first appointment with my surgeon , he can't figure out what's causing it, (may be meds I was prescribed by another dr pre op ).....it just sucks! I'm so disappointed , I was so excited to have my surgery! And the good news is the fact that I lost 30 lbs !

No white carbs, potatoes, rice, noodles they take up precious space needed for food with valuable nutrients. Cooked fruits and veggies when your NUT says you are ready. You should have a good nutritionist to call and visit to help you with your food journey. Mine was the most valuable part of this process. I still learn something new every time I see her.

I got food plan booklets for every stage when I visited my NUT. Very detailed with meal suggestions. I hope your program has this kind of support for you. They may be able to offer some suggestions to help you with costs for your food.

@@Hiraeth You need to shop for appropriate post-op foods and have them available at all times. Noodles are not usually allowed on plans (as @ indicated) for months (if ever). There's alot you can be eating - cottage cheese, greek yogurt, sugar free pudding (add Protein powder), hummus, ricotta bake, refried Beans with cheese, pureed chili, etc. You can also supplement with Protein shakes if needed to meet Protein goals. No Pasta, bread or rice. I don't think there's any need for an endoscopy unless you're having difficulties with appropriate foods or fluids. Time to shop!

Well, I bought a ton of liquid stuff before the surgery. But my hospital pulled a fast one on me and told me that my stay would only cost $150. I only get paid $640 every 2 weeks. Well, when I arrived at the hospital, I found out it was actually going to cost me $350. I had no choice but to give it to them. That left me with only $70 because the rest went to bills. So I bought nothing but liquid to last me for a week. Protein drinks are not very cheap (they are about $8.00 for a pack of 4). I bought 3 packs which cost me about $25 plus tax). The rest went to broth and medication. I now only have $7.56 in my account and I don't get paid until tomorrow. So, it was impossible for me to buy anything else. Once I get paid, I am going to buy Soup and eggs and more Protein Drinks.< /div>

Greek yogurt is pretty inexpensive, especially if you buy it by the larger container. Do you have a store like Aldi nearby? They are pretty inexpensive.

Do you live close enough to a store that you can go a few times a week? Don't stock up all at once- you might waste money in case something doesn't agree with you. This early on find something that's on your plan and works for you and stick with it. I would hate for you to go spend $100 on a weeks worth of groceries and have any of it go to waste.

eggs and Beans are both very inexpensive, packed with Protein, and easy on the new tummy. I'm 3 weeks out from a sleeve plus hiatal hernia, and these two things are easy on me. Ramen noodles have 0 nutritive value, tons of sodium, and carbs. When your body says NO, you need to listen. Be careful!

I was very bloated after the surgery. It's a mix of IV fluids and pain meds. Have you had a normal bowel movement? Because pain meds will make you so constipated. I hope the pain goes away. When I was constipated, I hurt SO MUCH in my lower abdomen. I thought I had kidney stones because it hurt so much! Prayers for you sweetie. <3

Actually, the ramen I eat has 4g of Protein in each pack, lol! But you're right. Besides the protein, they aren't very healthy. I had eggs this morning and I wasn't able to finish all of them but they were so good! :)

I do have an Aldi that is about 10 minutes away. I'll go there today. Mmmm greek yogurt! :D

I do have a store close by. I usually stock up on Protein Shakes and soup. I never get things that seem iffy, lol. Thanks for the advice. :D

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
