Med change, weight increase 10 lbs

Recommended Posts

My psych dr agreed with me that I had been taking Effexor for a long time and wanted to change to something different. I was on it for almost 10 years.

I am now taking Pristiq, have been for the last 5 weeks. Now since then, my appetite is bananas, I'm sleepy all the time ( I yawn non stop at the gym), my joints ache.

THe most common side effect is loss of appetite and weight loss.

Well, not here lol

I believe I'm having some paradoxical effects. I want off this STAT!

Can anyone relate?

Effexor has been an oldie but a goodie for many years.

Were you having difficulties with it?

I'm thinking if Effexor was becoming ineffective than why not a "booster" instead of a "replacement"?

Just a thought...

He's tried to give me Welbutrin as a booster, but apparently it was a no go he thought. So off of both of those and now pristiq.

A woman I haven't worked with in about 2 months said tonight " looks like you've gained weight huh?"

I want to cry.

Why not go ahead and have a good cry? You've earned it. Relish it.

Then:

Put your think'n cap on. Get more professional opinions. If your doctor is stumped this time, seek another. It's not being disloyal. It's enlightenment.

And don't give up until you feel better. There is a "cocktail" out there somewhere for you as the unique individual you are. You just have be assertive and insistent long enough until you find it.

Don't give up on yourself, my friend. There is a path out of the "med change/weight gain quagmire that you find yourself bogged down in now. You just have to find the correct "GPS" setting to get you on that "right path".

Keep posting. Keep calling. Keep asking. The answer is out there. You'll find it. I know you will.

Thank you so much ❤️

Your words are like a breath of fresh air. I am now searching the Internet for top Psych. Docs in NH.

I don't know why I seem to just settle with one answer.

Maybe because they know more than I do lol

Thank you ever so much

I would try lexapro though I yawn when I'm at the gym too haha but I'm never tired unless I eat a lot ( haven't had surgery yet ) it works with the SSRIs, when I was on pristiq I would have out of body experiences and do things I wouldn't think of doing..... Do some research on lexapro and see what you think

I was on depakote a while back, that was a true weight gainer for me.

I looked up what seems to be a wonderful Psych ARNP that does med management close to me. I'm going to call my ins company to see if they cover second opinions, which I'm sure they do. Anthem so far has been awesome.

Who knows, maybe my doc will call in the Prozac and I'll give that a whirl to add. But, I truly want off this.

My weight gainer meds were for my fibrimyalgia and some of the antidepressants...which did not work for me anyway.

My Dr FINALLY called me back today around 1:30p.

He's cutting my Pristiq by half and introducing Prozac. I've never taken that. Fingers crossed. I'll be doing this regimen till I see him again in sept

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
