Deborah Bennett and maredarlin - it's almost time!!! Are you excited, nervous, packing, drinking your Water? What are you up to? I'm all of that!!

I had a few moments last night where I was like, "is it too late to cancel? am I sure I should do this?" Of course I am, but I'm freaking out slightly and surgery is always slightly scary. I'm also excited and ready (especially after these two weeks pre-op). I realize I'll have more emotional moments in the next few weeks, but I'm ready.

went to store tonight to pick up some things to have at home when I get back from the hospital. Bought myself two new books and did a bunch of laundry.

Tomorrow I was told i could have one Protein shake early morning, but then it was just Clear Liquids until 10pm. Tomorrow will be a fun birthday.

How about you? You ready for this thing?

Doing good ... Already down 17 pounds since highest weight. Sipping on Subway chicken Noodle now. No real pain anymore, just super tired and moving slow. Thank goodness I don't have to go back to work until Tuesday!

Sleeved Aug 30th....1st 3 days were tough! Worst part was shoulder pain due to my drainage tube. Once the tube was pulled out the pain immediately was gone. I already went through some regret in the hospital but now that I am seeing that the scale is moving I feel more positive that this was the right decision for me. My biggest concern is that I can't stop burping. Anytime I drink or eat I have to burp, it's embarrassing! I hope this will go away. My dr only allows broth and Jello the 1st week. I bought some yogurt today and am tempted to try it but I'm just not sure. What is everyone else allowed?

My Dr also has me on Clear Liquids first week. I couldn't stomach the canned broths so I went to Subway and just strained their chicken noodle Soup. I added Isopure Protein to it as well - hoping this will give me some energy. Still weak as a kitten.

I agree, 1st few days were tough but doing pretty good today. Return to work on Tuesday. Desk job so should be ok.

Hi! I was sleeved on 8/30. Did well except for some postop reflux. Finishing postop day 5... Felt full this am, had 2 bouts of diarrhea none since this afternoon and was able to tolerate more clears and fulls. But I kind of feel hungry. Not sure if it's hunger or if it's acid. Anyone else feel this? I was expecting to never feel hungry again given the grehlin suppression. Anyone?

I have the same hunger feelings, but i'm thinking that the hunger is gas, since as the gas passes so does the hunger feelings pass. but, i don't really know since i was sleeved on the 31st

My doc starts clears and full liquids after discharge once you have tolerated Clear Liquids in the hospital. Full liquid does include yogurt if its light or fat free Greek (higher protein), sugar free, well blended, smooth, with no fruit or bits in it.

All August 30 Sleevers, check in! How are you doing?

I'm a bit tight and gassy today and the first couple days were a little tough, but I see light at the end of the tunnel. Go back to work on Tuesday. I think today has been hard because I tasted a couple bites of sf pudding last night. Back to clear broths and liquids today.

I am down roughly 10 since surfer and 17 total. I am a low BMI sleeved so certainly didn't expect to drop this fast but I'm guessing it will slow up now.

How is everyone else doing?

Hi everyone! I'm a week out and I'm starting to feel a lot better. yesterday I was able to get in two 1-mile walks. Doing good with my Water, but struggling with Protein. My other main issue is sleep. After the first few days where I was groggy and tired all the time, now I'm just not tired at all. i haven't been falling asleep until almost 1 in the morning and then I'm up at eight. I need to get this fixed before I return to work on Thursday (if all goes well)

Just had my 1 week checkup and then went to Ruby Tuesdays for dinner. Ordered chicken Noodle Soup (strained) and some mashed potatos. Ate about 6 spoonfuls of Soup and 5 or 6 bites of the mashed potatos. I have to tell you, they were both amazing and I pushed away from the table feeling like I had just finished my Thanksgiving meal! Immediately got a headache because I think I ate too much. What a blessing this sleeve is! I walked away fully satisfied (and more) and have leftovers for 3 or 4 more meals!

Sleeved 8/30 in Boston. I feel good almost like nothing ever happened and yesterday I started to feel what I think is hunger. I thought that wasn't supposed to happen!!! Could I be hungry? Feels it. Or maybe too much acid?

I had my sleeve 8/8/16. I'm down about 53pds, but I have alot of pain between my shoulder blades. I always had alot of lower back pain, never there. Not sure whats going on.

I'm down 1/2bp med. Not having any trouble getting down Protein or Water.

I do use an exercise bike 7days a week 1/2 hr to one hour on weekends. Plus walk at work 8,000 steps. I was on a three week stall at week 3, and pretty sure I'm in another one. Hope this will help people. Down 2 sizes.

I was sleeved 8/30 as well. Felt hunger a couple times over the last few days when I didn't eat every few hours. The good news tho is that when I felt it, I ate a few bites and was satisfied and went on with my day. I'm in a stall right now, not really counting but think it's been about 11ish days. Just riding it and not stressing. My body will figure it out and start losing again soon I'm sure, seems that everyone does. Glad you're doing well! Don't stress the hunger, your body's doing what your body needs to do.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
