Have you tried other forms of healing for the nausea? I'm an essential oil user so I'd try ginger and peppermint topically or diffused. Acupuncture can help too. Just thought it might add to what's already been said. Good luck. I hope to have my surgery in november

I was going to suggest the same thing! I swear by them. I recently had Brachioplasty and I am alergic to the dressings used which can not be removed for 3 weeks so I am stuck.

That caused a bit of a rough recovery for me. I started diffusing and using them topically on my arms. I am a true believer, they are calming, help with Migraine, with pain, with stress, with nausea.

You can treat just about anything with therapeutic grade essential oils.

Thank you all for your replies. As far as the Protein, that's an absolute HECK no!! I have tried premier, Atkins juice Protein, syntax nectar in about 8 flavors, soy protein, nothing. Even the smell makes me vomit. Same things with the Vitamins. Ive tried them crushed, I have chewable AND liquid Vitamins and all of them come straight out. My doctor just told me I will have to come in at least once weekly for IV solutions which really makes me sad. I'm nauseated literally 24 hours a day. I can keep down Water but I can't stand this nauseas feeling. To be honest with you guys, I am feeling really upset with myself for ever doing this surgery. I had no health problems and did it only because I wanted to be "skinny". What I wouldn't give right now to go back and give my past self a look into the future...I feel like I sold my soul to the devil for the sake of vanity!!

Protein is really important. There are so many different types of protein supplements available; that there is one that will probably fit your needs. I used Muscle Milk Light (vanilla creme) Protein powder and mixed it with Water and added a half a banana in the blender for my Protein shake. Others seem to like premixed Isopure. In the worse case, you might fall back on milk which is fortified with powdered milk. 32 ounces of 1% milk combined with 1 cup dry milk provides 56 grams of protein. It might take you all day to drink this. But it also helps to meet your daily Fluid requirements.

Hey there. I'm sorry you are feeling like this. I had really bad nausea for a long time too. The taste of the Protein might change after the nausea settles down.

Some other users have given great questions about pain meds and gasx. With gas x you can get the liquid given to babies and that helps especially in the beginning.

Dehydration can make nausea worse. So it becomes a cycle. Has your dr given you anti nausea meds? One thing that really helped me was crushing dramamine. Your dr has to clear you for it. They taste is extremely bitter! So it isn't fun to take but it helps.

Also this is a really emotional time. I read that certain hormones are stored in fat and since you are burning that fat they are released. It can really mess worth a person. Give it time.

Best of luck

Your dr might be able to prescribe zofran. Ask! It helps so much! They also have chewable Dramamine

Just drink your Water... even this first week or two, the Protein isn't as important as the Water. Which Protein drinks are you using? If you can't stand them right now, try another one. Premier Protein is a popular one (the ready to drink variety). Just keep sipping your water though so you don't need those IV bags. If you can keep that down, consider it a victory - for now.

I am only 11.5 weeks out, and I am doing mostly great. I can't eat what others can eat though, and while this is hard for me, I'm finding ways to deal with it, as you need to.

Find the Protein Drink you can handle, get your rest, and try to walk as much as you can... it really does help with recovery. You still have the anesthesia running through your body. This also takes time to go away.

Hang in there! It'll all be OK in a few weeks!

It's my understanding that for the first couple of weeks - only - that water is more important. Obviously as you progress, and keep yourself hydrated, that the protein becomes as important as the water. But the first few days to two weeks, she needs to stay hydrated any way she can, and if it's just water, then it's just water.

Of course, she also needs to continue to try Protein Drinks until she finds one she can drink without gagging on it.

Perhaps holding your nose while you drink them? Seriously, is it the taste that is grossing you out?

I often wonder if more picky eaters have issues with things like this than people that will eat anything?

I haven't read through all the responses, but have you tried different temperatures? Have you tried adding Water enhancers or infusions to your plain Water? Plain water was the hardest thing for me to drink for quite a while. Adding crystal light, Mio drops, or other infusions really helped.

Have you tried ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates? I started using them (undiluted over crushed ice) in the hospital.

@@summersslim I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time. Did they give you anti nausea meds, that will help a lot. Sip Water all day, little tiny sips. Water and broth, don't worry about Protein or Vitamins, you need to stay hydrated

Hi summersslim,

I don't know if this will help for your particular situation, but since I made the choice to stay the journey to a healthier me, I've done a ton of research. Thought maybe this website might help you. Just be sure that your Protein powder is the right kind for your dietary needs.

I'm sorry you're going through this...I know, it sucks. But ... like the other replies, it really does get better. I felt the same way immediately after surgery. I had mine Aug. 1st of this year; I'm only 5 weeks out. I remember feeling "Oh my god, what have I done?" or "Why?" sugar free popsicles are my best friend. I seem to be able to get those in better than anything else - they save me in getting in my liquids!! I too have been (and still am, unfortunately) dealing with 24/7 nausea (and occassional vomiting spells) since surgery. I came home on the scopalamine patch and zofran. The patch actually made my vision so bad I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. Once we figured that out, the patch was immediately discontinued. I am taking zofran and phenergan around the clock, in addition to my other post surgery meds. Because of the nausea, I did have to stick with liquids for awhile, then slowly moved into pureeds. I'm just starting soft foods - but it's been rough. I'm going back to pureeds for a bit longer. I've also had to go in for fluids because of dehydration.

Even with ALL of the nausea, the Constipation, vomiting, just feeling BLAH, I am finally to the point where I can say I am GLAD I made this decision. I'm starting to see and FEEL results, and that is worth it. I hear that eventually the nausea will get better ... I hope so.

Good luck ... hang in there. You CAN do this!!

Those organic sugar free Popsicle became my best friend especially the green ones.I buy them by the case now. I felt the same after surgery. I had my bypass 6/17 and in the last 4 weeks I started feeling better. I couldn't keep Water down. It would hit my stomach like a brick which is why I went to the Popsicles. Keep with your Protein, Vitamins and keep drinking and you will start to feel better

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
