3 weeks post op- mild leg cramping, dry mouth

Recommended Posts

Looking for others experience.

Almost 3 weeks post op. Yesterday and today have started to have mild cramping feeling in both my legs. Like I just did a workout on a spin bike or something (but haven't)

Also waking up middle of night and the morning with very dry mouth.

I am on a diet of pureed food. Including shakes, Protein injury Soups, I am managing around 48 ounces of fluids. I rarely seem to be able to meet the 64 ounces, but keep trying. I feel more fatigued then I did a week ago too.

And as far as weight loss, it has not moved more than a pound for two weeks now.

Anyone experience the same, or know what these two symptoms might be?

I had similar symptoms and was dehydrated. That can be serious so you really should be contacting your doctor or go to the emergency room.

As for weight loss, you are supposed to be healing now, the real weightloss starts later. Stay off the scales. People experience stalls occasionally too.

I would call someone or go to hospital today just to make sure that you aren't dehydrated.

I didn't know that I was when I was.

Just my opinion, I am not medically trained.

I am having the same exact symptoms. My surgeon says its dehydration but I don't know how it's possible for me to drink more than I already am. Legs are killing me though!

Thank you for the advice and sharing your experience. Did you need IV treatments?

Yes, I hear you about the fluids! It consumes my day, I have a Water bottle constantly in my hand to sip. But I still can't manage more. Hope you are feeling better soon!

Yes I did but I have had severe complications. I also simply got exhausted and didn't try hard enough to get the fluids in. I drink Water from 7 am until midnight everyday now plus broth twice a day and ice pops in between.

The pain in my legs went away once I was hydrated. I also now add salt to my broth and drink watered down electrolyte and mineral drinks (sort of like gatorade in the States).

The tiredness can be from the extreme low calorie diet you are on. That should improve when you start getting more calories.

The rest of your symptoms sound like dehydration. Call your doctor's office in the morning and see if they want you to go in for fluids.

You need to increase your Fluid intake. You may be becoming a little dehydrated.u

If symptoms continue, call your surgeon's office for advice.

Keep up the great work, stalls are normal.

Wanted to follow up and say thank you to everyone who responded with advice, experience, info!

I did go to the doctor next morning, got labs done. Was dehydrated but not yet to a dangerous point. Iron was low.

Potassium ok.

But I did make some changes starting the night I posted. Got myself G2 gatorade, that I am now drinking - watered down- to replace just Water. And am taking more time to focus on drinking my fluids, staying up later if need to, to get in that 64 oz.

Also added bananas into my diet. Doctor said to continue that. And we are working on adding a chewable Iron supplement to add to the bariatric Vitamins I am taking 3 times a day.

As of today leg cramps are gone, and my energy has returned to what it was a week ago. I will not let my hydration slip. Realize how important that is for recovery.

I am so thankful for this board. Thank you for encouragement to go to the doctor too. When in doubt...

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
