Wedding Ring

Recommended Posts

Since I have started to lose weight, my wedding band and engagement Ring are getting very loose. I friend is superstitious and said that it is bad luck to have your wedding band resized. I don’t want to stop wearing them but, they have already come off my finger a couple of times. At present I am wearing then on my middle finger. Should I wait until I am down near goal weight to have them resized, do it now, or not have the wedding band resized at all. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

<o:p> </o:p>

How have other married bandsters dealt with this?<o:p></o:p>

Mine did the same thing, I am wearing it on my middle finger, I am going to wait until I have lost all that I want, about 20 lbs more. I have several other rings that need to be re sized. Good luck on your decision

Hi Fred, welcome to LBT, and congrats on the weight loss!!!

I am 16 month out from surgery, and am still not wearing my original wedding rings. The way my rings are made, sizing them will be difficult as well as expensive! And to do so more than once is likely to weaken the setting. So....I am wearing a simple ring that DH bought me for our 10th, it was easy to have sized, and very inexpensive, and I wear a simple plain band with it. Not ideal, but they work. When I quit losing, I will have MY rings sized. They are a size 10 and I am now wearing a 7.5. So, I don't imagine they will get much smaller, but I'm not taking chances.

As far as being bad luck, I think that is silly!!! I could have stayed as fat as I was, and been buried early with it fitting snug---or I can be without it while I get healthy, then wear it with him til we grow old together.

Most have had to have rings resized, or are waiting to do so---it is often one of the first places we lose weight, it was for me!!! Here I was wanting my belly gone, and heck no, my fingers went first!!!

The commitment, and the bond, and the love are all there. I love my rings, but they are nothing but a symbol to the outside world. The real connection between us is much stronger than any ring. I would rather be without it, then resize it later, than accidentally lose it forever.

I vote to resize, and until then, check out Walmart, they have inexpensive wedding bands!!!

My husband just has his resized. He's lost 70/170 lbs. and didn't wear them for the past 3 months...He wanted to wear his ring, so he had them done VERY tight. Actually he can't wear his "engagement" ring (a Claddagh) yet because his right hand is much larger than the right.

As for bad luck...rubbish! It's nothing but good luck...you're healthier and happier...

Oh, and stop wearing them....before you lose them. I lost 60lbs a few years ago and had my engagement ring fly down the garbage disposal...Thankfully, my dad was a plumber and was able to get it easily.

Best of luck,

Rain

Maybe if you can't wear it on your hand for now, perhaps put it on a necklace that way it is still on you? I don't know if you'd like that, but it is an inexpensive way to wear them all the time.

balderdash!

I agree with the suggestions already given. I have a ring, a simple gold band that was originally bought from Sam's club for me to wear when pregnant and my fingers were swollen. Unfortunately I am now wearing that ring fulltime, but when I have lost my weight and I am down to my "real" size I will have my rings resized.

So...having your rings resized is badluck but having to wear a different ring due to fingers too large or small isnt? How convoluted. I guess having to have your rings cut off your finger as some that I know have had to do isnt the best of luck, either...

I wear rings on every finger - I just like rings! I have 2 really nice ones- my mothers wedding/ engagement ring that i had to have fused together and an opal that my dh and dd gave me for mothers day. The others are inexpensive ones i've picked up. I have lost 2 of the inexpensive ones- they just flew off somewhere and i never did find them. It hurt but I also got to pick up a couple more! Walmart has these ring things called ring snuggies that fit on the rings and make them tighter- no more lost rings.

I am waiting till I am at goal till I have the 2 good ones resized. My DD gets all the other ones i shrink out of.

I had my rings resized when losing them became a real possibility. At the same time I had one of them re-set, so the whole thing was expensive, but resizing a simple band isn't all that expensive. It shouldn't affect the setting at all, if there is on.

Rainer, I got my first husband a Claddagh ring for his engagement present, too! He loved it, being Irish to the core.

For rings in the interim, I have shopped like crazy at this website that sells sterling silver jewelry---rings, mens & womens, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, ankle bracelets, toe rings---you name it! They showcase 4 items at a time for 15 minutes each or until sold out. They say the jewelry is free, and that all you pay is $5.99 s/h. I am sure the s/h is less than that, but the $5.99 is all you pay for any of it. Piercedqt led me to the site---shame on her!!! Check it out if you want inexpensive replacements as you shirnk!!! Free sterling silver jewelry. Free offers from SilverJewelryClub.com

I just got married this year, and I've never had my engagement ring or wedding band fit.. I had a snuggler thing on the engagement ring, and the wedding band is a guard, which is a size smaller, so I thought it would hold it all in place till I got to goal--when I plan to resize them both..

But now, they are both far too big and spin all over the place. Due to the problems with diamonds in resizing, I am waiting until I am closer to goal to resize.

You can take your ring to a local jeweler and what he can do is place a piece of metal along the inside bottom of your ring. It is not permanent. The metal simply is "crimped" on around both edges of the band. I have had this done in the past to a ring of mine and it worked great. There was not cutting or reconfiguring the ring and it fit!!! Plus, it can be removed with tweezers and resized again if needed. I think it cost be around $20.

I thought about having that also, not sure if it would work with both rings together now.. but my husband told me (the jeweler said it was 10 bucks), the metal they use is 'fake metal'.. which I'm highly allergic to, I break out in rashes unless it's real gold.

Do you know the content of them? If they are hypo-allergenic I wanted to try those. Otherwise, I think I'm going to end up tying a string in there.

Alexandra,

You've met Pat...he has not an ounce of Irish in him...Italian to the core...I am Irish and thought it would be fun.

When his uncle saw it for the first time he muttered: "There goes another one..."

Too funny!

Ya know, I was thinking that you must be Irish, because Pat sure isn't! :)

My first husband gave me a t-shirt that said "Irish By Marriage." While I didn't enjoy being married to him, I did enjoy being Irish while I was. :biggrin1:

i actually was just given a new set from DH. he told me that my rings were literally falling off my fingers and i should have rings that fit well ... he said i could go back to my old rings and have them resized (very basic when we were just starting out 'poor') if i want to. i think i may do that and wear one set on my left hand and one on my right. ??? not sure yet though. the old set has deep sentimental value ... **sigh**

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
