I'm not one to go to group therapy but I did have individual sessions that I actually enjoyed and found useful. I have one more Support Group to attend as a requirement of surgery and not looking forward to it - 1st one was horrible!

If you don't mind me asking.... why was it horrible?

The Nutritionist was the only person there from my Program and couldn't answer alot of questions. She demonstrated a Protein shake recipe for most of hour. People really had no clue about WLS - asking really basic questions that you should know before even going for a consult (which this was all people pre-op and post-op - must be a patient). It just wasn't very "supportive".

My surgeon requires that we attend monthly group support group sessions- unless we absolutely can't. I went to my first just 2 weeks post op and I loved it. The facilitator allows us (newbies to those 6 months post op) to have a peer q&a session before the surgeon stops in to answer more detailed questions. I loved it. I drag hubby with me and he enjoys it as well. I hope you can find something like this.

food mourning is real. It's ok. I'm over a year out and make mistakes. Sugar/food was a major addiction and i used it to take my blues away. Sometimes it happens. I've suffered through dumping a couple times just to have a taste of what I once considered "normal."

Melty Mints are my weakness. You know the ones. They are Hershey kissed shaped and are pastel pink, yellow and green with white sprinkles on the bottoms. Oh how i miss them! Sometimes you just need to talk about the cravings you're having. Maybe it sounds a bit silly, but it helps. It's just good to know other people have their moments too!

@@celibear thanks for being brave enough to share and ask. I am preop (surgery 8/17) and I am certain that this thread will be helpful to me and others in the future.

So today I had a fell week and gave in bought a bag of chips (was only able to eat 3) and a soda ( had about 3 sips). I feel so guilty. I've been doing so well. I had WLS on 06/07. I did the WLS for a change of life style and I go and do this. Please tell me I'm not the only one.

At 1.5 yrs out I must say I've cheated a lot. One day I just wanted a doughnut so bad I drove to Krispy Kreme and got one. I ate it I dumped I felt guilty I haven't done it since. I give in every now and then just to satisfy my mental state if that makes any sense. I sorta was forced to have this surgery so the weight really wasn't the issue. My starting weight was only 181 today it is 120 I had rny as a resort to my stomach being removed. I have no remnant pouch it had to be removed during my surgery which took 10.5 hours 8 days later an obstructed bowel surgery, then the gall bladder 6 months later it's been a rough road but I'm on it

If you don't want to share...I get it...but was wondering why you had all that happen to you! accident, illness, etc...you don't have to ansr if you don't want to....

Thanks for asking. I've had two failed paraesophageal hernia operations and wasn't aware they were fixed with mesh well it grabbed the stomach and liver and diaphragm and connected them all together, when my surgeon went in to fix it the stomach was so munched up he had to cut it out to get everything loose, he was able to do the bypass as a last resort with the little bit of stomach he could save. I wasn't expecting any of this, neither was he he only scheduled the surgery for 3 hours but it ended up being 10.5. My husband was freaked out and me also so I kinda got thrown into this rny thing but I'm here so it's all good. It's really a wake up call and I get a lot of help and support from this app. Good luck to you and again thank you for asking.

Thank you all for your replies. It good to know I'm not alone and feels nice to express how I feel to ppl that understand me. I have a very supportive family but they try to understand just don't fully get it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
