I'm a late eater too! I rarely eat Breakfast, and drink iced coffee all day. (not healthy at all lol) then I eat a small late lunch, dinner, and snack at night. Now I've been eating first thing in the morning, lunch, and dinner before 7. Today has been easier. I'm going to have to adjust to this new lifestyle so better now than later. :)

It really is a blessing to have a great support network. I had to do two weeks of liquids only pre-op, and then 3 weeks liquids only post-op. I was so hungry at times I wanted to cry...but I wanted my surgery so badly I somehow got through it. My husband never ate in front of me. My daughter offered to do liquids with me, bless her heart. She's only 15 so I didn't let her do it of course...but the offer was so sweet of her. You will find out just how strong you are! Hang in there...I made it and so can you. It will be so worth it! Best wishes to you on your journey!

Thank you so much!! The support at home and here has been tremendous! I kept telling my fiancé I don't think I'd survive the pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks if I had to do it. Lol but you're absolutely right, it's getting easier and I want to be healthy so quitting isn't an option. I went to a support group tonight, and talked to the bariatric surgeon and he said the pre-op diet is usually a lot harder than the post-op because our stomachs are bigger before surgery than after (makes sense) which is no wonder why I don't feel satisfied.

Try making homemade bone broth , then add some nutritional yeast.

It adds more savory taste AND more Protein.

You can also add it to Won Ton broth. Yummy!

You guys have quite a support group of your own right here. Good for you!!

Share and enjoy each other's journey. :)

@@8petals That is so sweet of your family to be supportive! You are so lucky to have them! <3

The pre-op diet will probably be the hardest part in this whole thing - it will be for me, at least (besides the CO2 gas pain afterwards). I get Migraines when I'm hungry. Excedrin is the only thing that helps my migraines, and I won't be able to take them 2 weeks prior. :( Thankfully, my pre-op diet will only have to last one week. I honestly am dreading it. The best way for me to deal with this dread is to remember why I'm doing this. I can suffer a little for a few days in order to live the rest of my life healthy and in better shape.

You are not a baby at all! Your stomach is angry with you because it is so used to having a large amount of food in it. Since we are overweight, we feel this hunger more aggressively than others. When the stomach empties after the digestion of a meal, its walls come into contact and rub against each other. We have stretched out our stomachs so much, that our stomachs have become irritated. So, when the walls rub against each other, it hurts because of the irritation. We can and will get through this!

Thank-you sweetie! I was just talking to the surgeon at my support group this evening, and he said the pre-op diet is one of the hardest parts because our stomachs are so stretched out that it's normal not to be satisfied. Oh my Gosh, you sound like me! I suffer from migraines too, and I usually take Excedrin or ibuprofen for me It is killing me not to give in and take one. I'm hoping losing weight helps decrease my migraines in intensity and frequency. When's your surgery? Good luck!!

You can do it!

Definitely stay hydrated and fill up on what you are allowed to have: Decaf tea, sugar-free Popsicles, crystal light, etc.

Definitely filling up on Water and sugar free liquids. The bathroom has been my second home these past few days. ???? LOL Thank you for your support!

Thank you! I'm so glad you're not having a hard time with the pre-op liquid diet. How wonderful! When's your surgery?

Warm liquids help me. Tea and broth seem to give me a fuller feeling than the same amount of a cold liquid so try that. I especially like it before bed.

@@8petals I agree this pre op diet is terrible especially when your a picky eater. I feel like I'm going to starve but I know I'm not. My surgery date is the 22nd.

I think it would be trial and. Error based on your own preferences. I like Campbell's. Even try the chicken and noodles and take out the chicken and noodles? Maybe more flavor than the broth. Good luck

@@Clarevoyant warm liquids do help to keep you full but it's hard when you dislike beef broth and chicken broth. I bought Campbell's and they taste horrible. Is there another brand to buy that may have a better taste

Let me start off by saying I am pre-op but haven't had to do a pre-op diet yet. I have had broth before though! I like the packets of broth you add Water to. I think they're in a green box. You can try some canned Soup like beef consume or strained onion Soup (just drink broth) or you can make your own broth (or just add spices to box broth). Hang in there! It's wonderful your family is adopting a healthier lifestyle too - that will make it so much easier!
I'll definitely try all of your suggestions, thank-you! I am so thankful for all of you, and my fiancé and 5 little monsters are Godsends. :)

I am doing two shakes per day and only liquids, broth and Popsicles. I am on day 8 of the pre-op and the first couple of days I was hungry but I think it was just adjusting my mind that i don't need to chew to be full. Now I don't feel hungry but I do miss eating. I am dealing with Constipation from the Protein shakes!!! There is always something!!!

I've been constipated too, UGH!!! You're completely right though. I think it's the act of eating I miss. Today has definitely been better than the first few days!

I am on day 10 of the liquid diet. The first 2 days I found the hardest. Whenever I get hungry or have cravings I just think about how much I need this surgery and how in a few months time I will feel so much better that this time won't really even matter. Have you written a list of why you are doing this? I have, things like sore back, sore knees etc and I refer to it whenever I am struggling. You can do this, just ask for support whenever you need it X

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

YES! I have a bad back, ankles, and my right hip which i know will improve with the weight loss. I also suffer from Migraines which my surgeon said may reduce after losing weight. I keep re-reading that list, and feel better everytime. Tomorrow will be day #4, and today was much better. The first two days, I agree, were pretty rough.

Day 7 of the liquid diet here. I can't stand the canned chicken or beef broth so I went and picked up WonTon broth from the Chinese take out. It's great! Also I find that if I make my own sugar free Jello instead of the snack pack one's it is much better. For the Constipation mentioned earlier, the Smooth Move tea is perfect. Not too strong. No cramps. We can do this!

Yes, we can! ????My fiancé who actually used to worked on the bariatric floor at the hospital recommended trying the broth from wonton Soup. Definitely picking some up tomorrow. :) Thank-you!

So, I'm still wondering if I'm doing it wrong. My Doc's asst told me to go on the stage 2 diet which is full liquid/puree, nothing thicker than applesauce. I've used all kinds of creamy Soup, Tomato, healthy choice cream of mushroom, healthy choice and on the stage 2 is says I can add lean meats which are low fat. And I can have sugar free pudding etc, so I've added Peanut Butter to it with almond milk. I've added lean hamburger to my Soups and pureed it.Why is everyone doing just Protein shakes and liquids? I've been doing this since Sunday and the 2 times I've called the clinic, today and yesterday, they are closed because it's a military facility. I'm really worried. But I'm down 5 lbs!! They surprised me with a quick surgery date and I couldn't see anyone for my preop until this Friday...so I have a lot of questions!! But even with all that I'm adding to my foods, I'm only getting 900 to 1,000 calories and still hungry too!

My pre-op diet is liquids only per my dr with the exception of Greek yogurt and sugar free Jello. Some people don't even have to do it at all so each dr has preferences. I'm supposed to be getting 800-1000 calories but averaging about 600.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
