I'm so hungry! (pre-op diet)

Recommended Posts

I feel like a huge baby, especially after reading other posts about people being hungry after surgery. I'm sorry if I sound like a huge baby, but this pre-op diet SUCKS!!!!???? My surgery is 7/25. I started my pre-op diet yesyetday. I'm allowed two Protein shakes a day (Breakfast and lunch) and 2 oz of lean meat, and 1 cup of veggies for dinner. I am seriously so hungry! I've drank so much Water today to try and not be so hungry, but it's not helping so much lol. Did anyone else have a difficult time during their pre-op diet?

I gotta say though, my kid is freaking awesome! My 12 yr old daughter has decided to give up all sugar, sodas, Snacks, and unhealthy carbs during my pre-op phase; she's doing amazing! Then today, my stepson wanted to try it with us too. He said he loves it lol. Now all the kids want to eat healthier which makes me SO HAPPY!!! My fiancé has 3 kids, and I have 2, so in total we have 5. My fiancé fully supports my decision to have surgery, but he said from the beginning that he wouldn't want to change his diet with me, but he did today. He loves chips and dip, and instead of having that as a snack tonight, he had a yogurt and a banana which made me really happy. I also needed him to pick up a few things at the grocery store this evening, and he told me he had ice cream sandwiches, but decided to put them back. I am so unbelievably thankful for the support I have, and that's just at home.

It really is a blessing to have a great support network. I had to do two weeks of liquids only pre-op, and then 3 weeks liquids only post-op. I was so hungry at times I wanted to cry...but I wanted my surgery so badly I somehow got through it. My husband never ate in front of me. My daughter offered to do liquids with me, bless her heart. She's only 15 so I didn't let her do it of course...but the offer was so sweet of her. You will find out just how strong you are! Hang in there...I made it and so can you. It will be so worth it! Best wishes to you on your journey!

@@8petals That is so sweet of your family to be supportive! You are so lucky to have them! <3

The pre-op diet will probably be the hardest part in this whole thing - it will be for me, at least (besides the CO2 gas pain afterwards). I get Migraines when I'm hungry. Excedrin is the only thing that helps my migraines, and I won't be able to take them 2 weeks prior. :( Thankfully, my pre-op diet will only have to last one week. I honestly am dreading it. The best way for me to deal with this dread is to remember why I'm doing this. I can suffer a little for a few days in order to live the rest of my life healthy and in better shape.

You are not a baby at all! Your stomach is angry with you because it is so used to having a large amount of food in it. Since we are overweight, we feel this hunger more aggressively than others. When the stomach empties after the digestion of a meal, its walls come into contact and rub against each other. We have stretched out our stomachs so much, that our stomachs have become irritated. So, when the walls rub against each other, it hurts because of the irritation. We can and will get through this!

You can do it..what a wonderful family..I am day 8 of liquid diet..no meat..only small amount of vegies or salad...I don't really feel that hungry now and when I do start drinking Water with diet cordial, it works for me...I am only on 3 shakes a day and am coping really well...didn't know how I would go..keep looking at the bigger picture..keep going you can do it.

Warm liquids help me. Tea and broth seem to give me a fuller feeling than the same amount of a cold liquid so try that. I especially like it before bed.

I think it would be trial and. Error based on your own preferences. I like Campbell's. Even try the chicken and noodles and take out the chicken and noodles? Maybe more flavor than the broth. Good luck

@@Clarevoyant warm liquids do help to keep you full but it's hard when you dislike beef broth and chicken broth. I bought Campbell's and they taste horrible. Is there another brand to buy that may have a better taste

Let me start off by saying I am pre-op but haven't had to do a pre-op diet yet. I have had broth before though! I like the packets of broth you add Water to. I think they're in a green box. You can try some canned Soup like beef consume or strained onion Soup (just drink broth) or you can make your own broth (or just add spices to box broth). Hang in there! It's wonderful your family is adopting a healthier lifestyle too - that will make it so much easier!

I am doing two shakes per day and only liquids, broth and Popsicles. I am on day 8 of the pre-op and the first couple of days I was hungry but I think it was just adjusting my mind that i don't need to chew to be full. Now I don't feel hungry but I do miss eating. I am dealing with Constipation from the Protein shakes!!! There is always something!!!

I am on day 10 of the liquid diet. The first 2 days I found the hardest. Whenever I get hungry or have cravings I just think about how much I need this surgery and how in a few months time I will feel so much better that this time won't really even matter. Have you written a list of why you are doing this? I have, things like sore back, sore knees etc and I refer to it whenever I am struggling. You can do this, just ask for support whenever you need it X

I just bought the chicken stock from costco and added some seasoning to it. I really don't mind it and it's a nice flavor change from all of the artificially sweet things I'm consuming otherwise.

Day 7 of the liquid diet here. I can't stand the canned chicken or beef broth so I went and picked up WonTon broth from the Chinese take out. It's great! Also I find that if I make my own sugar free Jello instead of the snack pack one's it is much better. For the Constipation mentioned earlier, the Smooth Move tea is perfect. Not too strong. No cramps. We can do this!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
