    GERD

Excellent question! I have GERD and my surgeon still recommended the sleeve. I questioned it once I learned that people have issues with GERD post op sleeve. The practice keeps telling me that they mostly see GERD resolved after sugery. But Im thinking.... not according to what I keep reading. Im so confused because my nut is a 2nd generation gastric surgeon who's been doing this over a decade. I've only heard good things about him and I love his bedside manner. Has anyone with GERD previous to gastric sleeve had it resolve afterwards? If not, did it stay the same or worsen? 6. @@krissyleigh It definitely can! My surgeon wanted me to have RNY instead of VSG because of my acid reflux. He said the sleeve could make it worse. I take 40 mg of Protonix a day which has helped, but during my surgery, he also did a hernia repair which could have been the cause to my acid reflux and heartburn. But to answer your question, YES! And every surgeon is supposed to tell you the side effects to each weight loss surgery. It also could have been something you ate, but if it's happening more frequently, I would contact your surgeon. I also don't know how many weeks/months post-op you are, but heartburn is also very common in the first 6 months. I hope this helps you some, and that you start feeling better! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App I just realized you're still pre-op. I would ask your surgeon about it. Have you had an EGD done? It could also be a hernia which they'll repair while they do your sleeve. ???? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

  8. Good Luck! The pain was tolerable compared to the nausea/vomiting. They gave me Benadryl, Zofran, and an anti nausea patch in the hospital because the nausea and vomiting was brutal. It barely touched it! I'm 5 weeks post-op and still vomit at least twice a week, but I do not regret my decision for a second. Vomiting IS normal. I'm 41 pounds down already!! The gas pain (for me) was helped with just walking. I still have some issues with constipation, but I take a stool softener if it's been a few days. Prayers for a smooth surgery, and recovery. 9. I'm a little over 4 weeks post-op right now. I'm supposed to be getting in 60 grams of Protein a day. There's absolutely no way I'm getting that much in. I cannot stomach Protein shakes of any kind. As soon as I take a sip, I vomit. I've tried several different brands, flavors, and kinds. I don't know what it is, but my sleeve hates them. I do eat food with protein, but being that I can only eat 1-2 oz of food at a time, it's still not nearly enough of my daily protein intake I'm supposed to be getting. I know they have Protein Bars and Cookies. Do you think that would help? If anyone has any suggestions and/or something I can buy, PLEASE let me know. I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance! 14. I'm a little over 2 weeks post-op (my surgery was on July 25th.) I've been on soft foods since last Friday. I've thrown up every food I've tried since then. The rule is, if I vomit is to go back to Clear liquids for 24 hours. My body is fine on full liquids, just not food. I've tried a ricotta bake, egg salad, mashed potatoes, and chicken salad. I'm chewing my food enough, and I'm using the 30/60 rule, but within minutes, I get awful indigestion which causes me to vomit. Has anyone else been through this? I'm kind of scared. I know my body is still healing, and adjusting to it's new stomach. Am I just healing slower than the average person? I am getting my 64 oz. of fluids in and getting in about 60 grams of Protein a day, as well as my Vitamins. Is this okay? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

  20. I found taking tiny bits of food to be helpful. If you take too big of a bite, your food might not be chewed small enough. And eating really slow is very important. And drinking in between meal so you don't fill with gas. I don't know if this will help or if you are doing all this already. I've actually been on it since there day after surgery. After waking up from surgery, I immediately had nausea and vomiting. I was hoping it was *just* from surgery, but I guess it'll be a little longer for me. Thank you so much for your reply! How long after surgery were you finally able to hold down some foods? 22. I had surgery this past Monday, July 25th. My fiancé, of course, is ready. I'm still real relatively sore unless I take pain meds. My doctor didn't tell me not to or when to, all he said was not to have anything "rough" for a few weeks. How long did everyone wait? I'm kind of hoping losing my extra weight helps with my libido because ever since my hysterectomy, I've barely had a sex drive which really sucks. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  23. I just had my surgery last Monday, July 25th. I'm on Clear liquids until Monday, which is when I can transition to full liquids, then it'll be puréed starting Wednesday until I get the okay from my surgeon on Friday when I see him to move to soft foods. I figured I'd write this as one post versus 3 different ones: On full liquids, I'm planning on drinking mainly Protein drinks. Is there anything else I can have? If you have any recommendations with healthy puréed foods, please leave them below. And finally, what were some of the first foods you reintroduced back into your system? The only other thing that is concerning me is that I do feel very hungry. I've been craving food. I'm not going to eat because I know both my belly and body need to heal. Is this normal? I'm definitely getting in enough fluids. Am I actually hungry or do I just *think* I am? I also wanted to ask, and this may sound like a silly question, but how does your body tell you when you're full once you begin eating food again? Sorry, for all the questions, I just want to hear others suggestions and opinions. Thank you in advance! XO Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App

    Post op feelings

@@krazy kat I'm 30, and I'm pre-menopausal as it is (I had a hysterectomy at 27.) I just had my sleeve done on Monday. I know I'm not far out at all, but so far other than the normal recovery symptoms (pain, nausea, indigestion,) I'm mentally feeling good. The only other thing that is bugging me is ever since surgery I am up every hr or two throughout the night. I get sleep, but I'm not well rested. This could be due to just the recovery process as well and trying to get comfortable. Thank-you for posting this, I'm going to follow. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
