Where is YOUR port located?

DeLarla, that was an awesome reply. I'll ask my doc if he has an extra one for you, I'll tell him how sweet you are and to please try to find one!

Maybe I should just be a reader and not a participant. Hopefully when I have your experience with the band I will be as knowledgeable. Thanks for correcting me.

Most certainly NOT. You learn these things by participating. :D I had to learn it somewhere too. I hope you weren't offended. My intent was not in 'correcting' but in helping you to have the right information.

Mine is a sternal port. It's about an inch below the band on my bra and right smack dab in the middle. I was suprised when they told me it would be there as I thought it would be down and to one side. But they told me they put them near the sternum because people were trying to access their own ports (yikes!) and also there is less chance that it will flip or move with weight loss. I can kind of feel it when I lay on my stomach sometimes, but it doesn't hurt.

I really like the sound of a sternum port. I don't think they should put it under the ribcage to either the left or the right. Mine was under my left rib, which is too close to the stomach/band. I still have the tube, so I can never tell if the tube is bothering me of if it's the actual band. To place it on the right would be bad since I have occasional gallbladder twinges. If I get a new port on the right, I won't be able to tell if it's my gallbladder or my port. Sternum port sound perfect, plus I'm a Libra so my scales need to be balanced. I'd feel more even if it were in the middle.

I feel mine sometimes, sometimes not. Weird feeling but not painful. Below rib cage on the left. It bothers me sometimes to sleep on that side but you get used to it. I thought it was really strange when I had my fill. He hit it right in the center of my tummy above the belly button but he had me almost in a sit up position. It worked cause I definitely have restriction.

Thanks for the prayers, although you might want to start a little earlier, the butterflies are growing! Thoughts of blood clots, what kinds of liquids to drink, am I going to starve to death, am I going to succeed, am I making the right decision? I've questioned myself more in the last 24 hrs than the last 2 years.

Thanks for the support.

Mine is in a weird place to me. under my left breast, right under my ribcage. It still sticks out and I can feel it all of the time. I asked my doc about it and he said that he cut down 3 inches into muscel and that is why it is so sore. Altough I still can feel it and do worry about when I lose weight if it will stick out. He said not to worry about it. But I do not want to happend to me what has happended to some people on this site with the sore skin and having to have it moved.

Best of luck on surgery. I know you will do great.

As for the 10 cc band I have one. I still feel restriction. For instance today I had a Protein shake, half of an omelete for Breakfast, a smart ones low carb lunch ( I cannot eat the whole thing), a pear, 2nd Protein Shake, and about 4 OZ of meat with a little mashed potatoes for dinner. I am now getting down another 23 oz of Water and off to bed. Getting in my Water is my downfall. I have a hard time. I really like Propel water though. It is an easy way to get down the water.

See you on the bandster side. Oh and keep on posting. We are all learning on this site and take advantage of the ones who really know about this. No question is a stupid one and if you do not ask you will now know.

Well I think we should change your name to Ms. Perky Boobs! OMG if he puts my port under my boob, boy will he have his hands full. OH, what did I just say?

By the way, it's quite interesting to read where everyone's port is located.

Thanks, Nana. The latest "rumor" I heard about a new Inamed port is that a doctor might not be able to buy the port as a separate part, but instead he'll need to purchase the entire band just to replace my port. Another doc said the port alone would be $600-$800 (yes, for that little nickle-size part.) I don't know what the entire band w/ port part costs. I'm trying to get that clarified. My head will spin right into the clouds if I start getting a wide range of prices. So if anyone ever needs a new port, you need to pay for parts, labor and delivery: Traveling, surgeon's fees, anesthesia, hospital, and the port.... sheesh, they'll probably even charge for the fill, right? Cha-ching!

If you can't be, with the port you got, baby, love the port you're with, love the one port with, doo doo doot doot doo do daa doot.... name that tune.

Pat, my port is a sternal port also. My doctor told me that research has shown there are less complications with the port placed there. I do sometimes feel it when I am laying (or is it lying, I can never remember) on my stomach, but not to the point that it is really uncomfortable. At least not yet.

I totally understand about the butterflies. I think we all had them. Don't worry about blood clots. You should be up and walking at least a little very soon after surgery. Keep doing that and the blood clots won't form (unless you have a known clotting problem, in which case they will give you medicine to prevent the clots from forming. I'm pretty sure you will be successful, too. After all, we all were failures at dieting or we wouldn't have gotten the band. But look how many successes there are on this board! They're not really any more disciplined than you are. The band is helping them! As for the changes you will need to make, well, yes, there is some work and some uncomfortable change involved. But you already know that. We all get through it. I wish you a very safe surgery and a speedy recovery.

Nancy

Thanks Everyone for all the support and advice. My surgeon said he has heard this site (right side, near rib cage) leaves less chance cor port to flip or tube to bind, although, seems to me the sternal would be the best. Who knows what I'll end up with, LOL, the proctor may decide to put it sternal..we'll see...now what would I like to eat today?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
