Help I'm under attack

Recommended Posts

Hi again, I was banded on Monday 11/29 and I have been following the doctors orders for the solids. Since yesterday I've been suffering from Diarrhea very badly. Is this normal. It seems like everything I drink goes right through me. I called the Doctor today and he said I can take medication for it like anyone else. It is only me or has anyone else experiened this. I'm scared to drink anything now because I'm not sure if it is the food or just part of the recovery. I'm almost regretting the whole thing. :hurt I'm so uncomfortable.

Any suggestions??

Hi Newbandster,

First, congratulations!! Second, yup, this is normal. It seems to happen to some degree to just about everyone at this stage. Think about it--if you're only taking liquids in, only liquids can come out! (Gross, I know.)

If you're also having cramping or bad gas, you might want to call your doctor. Some people find they have a new sensitivity to lactose right after banding and that cutting back on dairy products can help.

Have faith that it will pass (no pun intended) and once you start mushy foods things will improve considerably. Good luck!!

OH MY GOSH, you brought back bad memories. I had it so bad that I ran to the doctor. She grabbed her stethescope to take a listen, but it rumbled so bad that she jumped back and yelled, "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" She was sure that I picked up some Mexican virus so she ran every test known - they were all negative. It lasted 2 weeks. But I was glad for it, because I felt that it cleansed decades' worth of toxic waste out of my colon. I felt like a million bucks after it passed.

I was afraid to leave the house there for a few days! Be sure you're drinking plenty of Water so you don't get dehydrated. Once you get on solids, you'll have the opposite problem. Welcome to Bandland!

Hang in there New" Again it's normal. If your having Gas pain as well? Try and walk, it will move the gas out and all your internal organs fall back into place! Not that they're not in place but during surgery things do get moved around a bit as well as the CO2 pumped into the stomach.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
