Well, I got my clearance from all my pre-op testing yesterday, and my approval from the insurance company the beginning of last week, so this is it! July 25th is the date! (which what it was set for, but getting the clearance/approval made it all so surreal.) I'm feeling excited, nervous, happy, anxious, ecstatic, and scared out of my mind! I spoke with my surgeon about my fears and anxieties, and he helped reassure me that it is completely normal to be anxious. As I was leaving my final (pre-op) appointment, he said "I'll see you in the pre-op room before surgery." I have one more appointment on the 14th for normal blood work.

Okay, sorry for rambling! I start my pre-op diet on Monday, the 11th. I'm not on a liquid diet until the last 48 hrs before surgery. My pre-op diet is pretty much the bariatric diet; very low carbs, little to no sugars, lean meats, Protein, veggies and fruit. I will be meal planning tomorrow and heading to the grocery store on Sunday. Any recommendations on what I should pick up (aside from the obvious) and/or high protein/low fat/low carb/little to no sugar recipes? Breakfast? lunch? dinner?

As always, thanks in advance! Went to the local health store, and bought all my Vitamins tonight too. I was excited just buying the vitamins; I know it must sound silly, but I'm so excited and beyond thankful for this.

You don't sound silly, it's normal! Very happy for you. It's hard for me to suggest anything because every program is different. We had to do 3 shakes and one Lean Cuisine type of meal. I'd just suggest that you stay away from carbs (no bread, potatoes, rice (unless it's brown), etc. You should be fine! Good luck :)

Thanks for your reply! ???? Are you on your pre-op diet now too or have you already had your surgery done? I was thinking of doing Protein shakes as meal replacers (which we're allowed to go too) and then eating a low carb/high Protein dinner. What shakes do you use? Thanks again! XO

My surgery was on Tuesday. I think I'd eat as many real foods as you can, while you can! My personal favorite is the Atkins Dark chocolate Royale shake. It has 15g of Protein, which is half of what is in a Premier shake but tastes so much better than the Premier. You might want to just buy a few samples now so you can get an idea of what you like, though I've heard tastes change after surgery. Mine haven't. I still love that shake thank goodness! There is also a product you can buy at the Vitamin Shoppe called Syntrax nectar, and I HIGHLY recommend you check into it. For some reason, Water is much harder to drink in large quantities after surgery, and the nectar makes it easier to go down. Please feel free to ask and I'll help in any way that I can!

I had my surgery Wednesday! I have found the Protein called powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury to be the best after surgery. Before I liked the Premier Protein but now I can't seem to stomach it. I too can't handle plain Water, flavor drops have saved me (be sure they are sugar free)! Best of luck to you! I was told the first 48 hours are the hardest with regret and not feeling well, I found it to be bearable, although everyone is different.

Your pre-op diet sounds a lot like mine was......Fish and green Beans was one of my favorite pre-op meals.....Chicken, and summer squash, zucchini noodles and turkey sausage meat balls with a little spaghetti sauce.....

Good luck! You'll do great!

I've been on my peo-op diet since this past Tuesday. I have surgery on the 19th. My pre-op diet consists of three Protein shakes a day with skim milk or light soy milk, I use Rutein for the Protein. I can have up to 2 cups of lettuce or spinach or greens. That's cooked or regular.

1 light yogurt a day 6oz. 1 cup of sugar free Jello, coffee and tea with no sugar, honey etc...

And up to 2 cups of low sodium chicken broth or beef broth a day.

Sounds like everyone has something a little different. Guess is dependent on the doc.

Thank you! I love zucchini, so I picked up a bunch of them today. Even if I don't finish them, my fiancé and kids will. Thank you again.

I made Zucchini spaghetti for my husband last night since i am on the liquids and he said it was good. So I will have that once I am allowed. I am trying to get him used to eating what I can eat so I don't have to make two separate meals. He already likes Tofu (which I do not) so it should not be that hard I hope!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
