I'm not trying to defend anyone in this thread but I do want to talk about my own experience with medicaid patients. I work in the health care field. I will say that based on my experience, that many, not all medicaid patients have a very entitled attitude. They are generally the ones that complain and get pissed off when they don't get their way. It can easily sour someone's perception of all medicaid patients when you work with this issue day after day. Mentally it can be quite taxing. I have to admit that when I deal with one of the entitled patients I think to myself "well, I guess my taxes are paying for this one". Somehow that makes it easier in my screwed up brain.

I agree. I have pretty good I insurance but I never go to the emergency dept for a cold (or head lice! ) I sure don't ream out the ED doc because "last week the other doctor gave me oxytocin for my hurt food and now you want me to take Motrin?" The majority of my noncompliance case managed patient are on Medicare. They know everything about everything and they sure don't need my advice, unless it means they will get more pain medication...

I want to add that this kind of entitlement is a cultural phenomena. It's about maintaining control. So it's strongest in uneducated families who have lived in poverty of generations.

Wow! Judge much?

No judgement. I've been an end case manager for 35 years, just posting exactly what I've seen. Please feel free to block me if my truth is so disturbing too you.

Nothing on an internet forum "disturbs" me.

And I block no one for that reason.

well...good to know your panties are comfortable but I wasn't referring to you at all. I was referring to my stalker, I have my own products blend and have no use for people who spend their time spewing ignorance anger and misery so I blocked her but I can see she still feels compelled to put in her less than fully informed OPINIONS.

@@Aggiemae I meant no offense...I was trying to be funny but when I re-read it, I think I missed the mark. I respect your point of view. Hope you have a great evening. :)

Wow, the ignorance is real here. You don't have a stalker, although I'm sure that you wish you did, unfortunately you're just not that important.

You can certainly take your frivolous ideas and judgments and shove them.

I'm not on bariatric pal to take your bullshit, I'm here for support and to talk others that are going through a similar experience.

Yeah, I am a newbie, so what? My insurance, my business. You threatened to block me, so please go right on ahead! Stalker lol, not on a public thread, in a public forum, on a public website.

I'm here for me, not you lady. Hahaha keep wishing weirdo! Tired of your negativity. People aren't here to listen to you bitch.

So it's very obvious the new newbies want nothing to do with hearing what successful WLS patients have to say. The recent debate over the the eating bacon 1 week postop makes it perfectly clear that what they want is for someone to tell them it's OK to be stupid. They are not interested in listening to their surgeons or nuts or veterans. Self sabotage is the new fad and compliance is apparently out of style. I made the mistake of responding to the post when, as a veteran, I should have known better. Turns out I'm just a big meanie (no surprise there!) At this point it's 95% newbies posting on that thread who don't have a clue what the long term repercussions of eating off plan so soon will lead to. The blind leading the blind.

Oh well. It will be interesting to see the stats of successful EWL go down over the next few years as more and more unprepared, uncommitted people continue to have WLS. In the meantime, I'm outa here. The newbies won. As hard as it is to tear my eyes away from the car wreck, I just can't take anymore people that do stupid **** and then whine about getting their feelings hurt. Someone PM me when the grown ups start joining again.

I'm a newbie and I understand your frustration with the stupidity. I saw someone ask about chips like 1 week post-op but we need you veterans to keep us focused and there's a lot I need help with and would much rather hear from someone experienced.

I'll miss you.

You have been so helpful and inspirational to me.

Unfortunately, lately there has been a lot less "PAL" in BariatricPal.

I have a date booked for sleeve and I would appreciate it if any vets would be willing to PM me because I would appreciate advice as I go forward . I'm not arrogant enough to believe I know better... I don't know anything much. I do believe experience is the best teacher which you have and I don't. I do feel immense gratitude for your willingness to give time. Also I did a liquid diet for 7 months so I have no time for people who feel sorry for themselves over a few days. If you are bored then find activities for entertainment or do something for somebody else. (This morning on BBC radio 4 they were talking about girls in India being trafficked and a 4yo bleeding to death from a ruptured uterus in which they found a stick. Frankly that's the sort of thing that I think it's worth complaining about. It's all relative!) I'm coeliac and I don't have the choices that most people have and I simply cannot understand why people are wailing about restricted diets. Try no wheat, rye, oats barley, milk as an everyday thing. I met my surgeon today and he advised that there may be extra challenges because my guts are sensitive anyway. I've not read the bacon thing but it strikes me as insanity to even contemplate it a week after surgery, a month after! I also don't get the logic of eating in the same way as got me to where I am. Surely it's a good opportunity to curb the sweet /carb craving tooth? I'm just not sure what best choices I can make. I'm useless at cooking and I want to develop a new gourmet mentality. A healthy and nutrition based non-relationship attitude where it becomes a resource for wellbeing.

So I'm understanding why you feel upset and at the same time I feel judged by the behaviours and choices of others and which I have not taken.

I am a newbie here myself. My surgery is scheduled for December 30 and I have to agree with composed. Lately there have been many rants about bad choices others are making. I too can understand why many may get upset but all newbies shouldn't be judged by the poor choices of others. Personally, I'm at point where I am afraid to ask questions and I have a lot. So those of you that choose to stay and give good advice, Thank you. It is appreciated.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
