August Bypass Buddies?

Recommended Posts

Hello all! Well..just got my surgery date...August 4th...and needless to say I am actually nervous. This will be a band to bypass revision, and it seems no matter how much research I have done, I find myself very much scared and nervous... it'd be nice to find some that are going through the same journey!!

Hello. August 1 for me. Lapband was removed on April 25th. Doctor makes you wait 3 months before revision to RNY. What are you doing to get ready?

Congrats on your new date! So yes, I am actually doing a "single-stage" revision - so both surgeries will be done at the same time. I'm a bit nervous to tell you the truth, but less about the surgery and more about just making it to the day of surgery.. This pre op diet has me doubting my abilities.... :(

How long is your pre op diet? You can do it. It will seem like a dream after surgery and getting back to real food.

I have RNY on August 18th....surgeon does not require a liquid diet, but I think I will do one anyway. Any weight I lose then is weight I won't have to lose later.

I started the 1 week liquid diet on Monday. 4 Protein Shakes, chicken broth, sugar free Jello, and Water. Monday was rough but the other days haven't been bad at all. Congrats on doing one even though it isn't required. Helps you prepare for it.

6 days left on the liver shrinking diet!!!!

I've been weighing regularly and it's up a pound and down 1.5 every other day. Seeing progress helps.

On the lighter side... Teaching my son to cook has been a blast. He made a casserole yesterday that involved defrosting a tube of hamburger then cooking it. I'm doing my best to simply coach him on the process and not touch anything. When he goes to cut open the tube of meet, both of us are sprayed with the defrost juices. My husband laughs long and hard. I squealed running around the kitchen. The doggies run in to help clean (a good thing for sure!!!). And my sweet son is standing there with the leaking meet repeatedly saying, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry." We sorted it all out. Showered. And finished the casserole. Lol - more mishaps like this and we should start recording them!!!

@dpressleymsn: I haven't started my liquid diet yet, but I feel your pain on the caffeine. I started about 3 weeks ago, and doing 1/2 caffeine, 1/2 Decaf for a few days definitely helped. Maybe try that?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
