Any Iowa sleevers?

That's great you have been out. I'm so glad you are feeling so good. I just can't wait wishing I could have it late Dec instead of March. Her insurance gal told me she probably won't let me travel to Fl for 90 days after surgery so Dec would be too soon. We are going to Disney in Feb.

That's ok. Use the extra time to research, prepare your home, get into a walking/exercise habit, work on the no drinking after/while eating habit, etc. It'll be here before you know it. :-)

Lucky did you find before surgery you ate more then usual? I've got to get this under control I haven't gained yet but just not eating good at all.

I did. It was like I was in a panic that my life was going to change so drastically. I had to have a heart to heart with myself lol. I had to remind myself over and over of my purpose for the surgery. And remind myself that overeating was only sabotaging my end goal. Maybe try journaling. Writing out how I feel helps sort through things too. Do you have a therapist? I have one that I see every month. That helps too. Remember why you're on this journey. You're worth it!

Cedar Rapids here. I'm 37, started this journey back in December at 417. My surgery was last Monday (9/26), and I'm one of the lucky ones, in terms of very minimal pain, zero nausea, and I went back to work one week after being released. This morning I weighed in at 370, but most of that weight loss was pre-surgery.

My surgery was at the University of Iowa, and my surgeon was Dr. Smith. My insurance required a six month diet, and I'm glad I had all of that time to prepare. I also had a few month delay due to a paperwork issue.

Right now, I'm feeling almost 100%, and I'm just nervous about this lengthy journey ahead of me. I'm glad to have this forum for support, and love to see fellow Iowans here!

Good morning!! I'm feeling great!! I'm excited for my first postop appt on Tuesday. I've lost 13 lbs since my surgery 9-29. Since my last preop appt on 9-19 I've lost 21. I'm very happy with that. No complications.

I'm feeling almost 100% already. No pain at all, just a little fatigue. I just mowed, and I'm a little more beat than I usually am.

Lucky did you do of the healthy lifestyles they offer at our clinic before hand. Dr. talked about it but no one ever said anything else to me. Is this covered under insurance like we do copay a I wonder?

Well, they mentioned it to me too and at the time I was still on the fence about the surgery so I said I was interested. All they really did was have me come in once in awhile to visit with a dietician and physiologist to set food/exercise goals. I think I came in twice before I was informed my insurance had approved me for surgery and they set my last preop appt. By then I'd made up my mind about surgery. If I remember correctly, they said the 6months of Healthy Lifestyles was $200. And if I chose to go ahead with surgery, (instead of Healthy Lifestyles) that $200 would be used as the preop fee. Hope that makes sense. I didn't pay anything except my copays for those couple visits I went to for HLs. On my last preop visit I paid the $200. If you're not sure about your insurance, ask the purple haired insurance girl :-) I adore her lol. I love her hair and her great personality. She's very helpful.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
