Any Iowa sleevers?

I'm doing well. Struggling to get more than 30g of Protein right now. I've been getting in 60oz of Water though. Sounds like my surgeon is ok with that for now. I've been a bit sleepy. My surgeon doesn't want me napping more than 30 minutes but I crashed for two hrs. No real pain. Just tender and sore. Horrendous breath even after brushing. My lungs feel a bit heavy and burn a bit, which I've been told is normal. Still using the breathing thing to expand my lungs. Overall doing well. Ready for some energy to return. And I'd really like to get more protein in. One day at a time.

You will get there! Keep up with the water! Walk as much as you can! Energy will return about 1 week or so. You are doing great!

Thank you for the support. It's definitely not easy, even without the complications that some people have. I started feeling a bit down earlier and had to remind myself that these first few weeks will be rough, but it won't last forever. I'm looking forward to chewing food again. I'm not really having cravings. Food smells good though. Hubby made me some cream chicken Soup. It's tolerable but doesn't taste real good. I'm thinking if my breath smells this bad, it must be coated from all the meds and that may be why soup doesn't taste the same. I need to stay focused on doing my best during this temporary phase. Real food will happen soon enough after I'm healed.

The bad breath is from no carbs and anesthesia. I have been less than 20 carbs since i was able to eat and i still have the breath from ketosis.

Any suggestions for the breath? Brushing teeth and tongue and using mouthwash doesn't help.

Not really....water helps some. Eventually i was able to suck on sugar free breath mints and that helps when I am seeing patients in the Hospital. Other than that i just keepnhoping that as the carb count get closer to 50 it will go away.

I was exhausted until about day 7 post op...then it was like a switch. I had energy but not a ton of stamina until about week 4. Then i was able to walk regularly.

I never had any tailbone pain but I have read about others that have. Try a search on here on tailbone pain and see what comes up.

I was having some weird cramping in my left calf so was sent to the ER for an ultrasound for clots. No clots. Just muscles I guess. I have a headache tonight and I'm tired. Other than that, doing well.

I'm on blood thinner shots twice a day for two weeks. Honestly, I just think my anxiety took over and I was scared. I have bad anxiety. My meds control it for normal stuff but this surgery was above and beyond normal for this girl lol. It's all good. I just need to get out of my head.

You'll do great. If you've done your research, if you're committed to the lifestyle changes and have a team you trust....You'll do great. If you have questions, let me know. I'll help any way I can based on my experience.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
