What pain meds did they give you after surgery do you know? I'm so worried about that most meds make me sick to my stomach and cause headaches.

They gave me Tylenol in my IV and morphine if I needed it. I just pushed the button if I was starting to hurt enough that I couldn't rest. I'm really not in pain. A couple of the incisions are sore but my stomach mostly just feels like I did way too many sit-ups. They've sent a prescription home for pain too if I need. If you have a tough time with certain meds, just tell them. They'll try to find something you can have.

I've been pretty sleepy. My hubby wakes me to walk, drink and take meds. Tummy feels really bloated. May start colace today cause I'm having a hard time going. Lots of burping. No real pain from incisions. My lungs feel burny and full so I do the breathing thing quite often. Overall, not as bad as I'd anticipated. I'm hoping to get some energy back soon. But my body has been through a lot. I'm sure it needs the rest. Hiccups hurt. Coughing hurts. The kind of pain you'd get from too many sit ups.

Glad to hear you are doing well! I had VSG by Dr. Cahalan August 15th. The whole group and staff are wonderful!

@nana1222. I am feeling great now. The first 3 weeks were pretty rough from a nausea standpoint. I had terrible reflux which was contributing to my nausea. So once that was under control i could actually get down Protein and Water and start to eat. At 8 weeks out I have a great amount of energy and can eat 1-2 oz of fish or chicken. It really takes a lot of work to figure out what and how much to eat. I had minimal surgical pain.

So glad you are doing better Fran. Did you have reflux before surgery? I know it is a side effect of surgery too. Did they give you something for that?

I did have some reflux before hand. They make you take something the first 3 months anyway I believe. I had to take an additional medication called carafate for 2-3 weeks and it is much better now.

I'm doing well. Struggling to get more than 30g of Protein right now. I've been getting in 60oz of Water though. Sounds like my surgeon is ok with that for now. I've been a bit sleepy. My surgeon doesn't want me napping more than 30 minutes but I crashed for two hrs. No real pain. Just tender and sore. Horrendous breath even after brushing. My lungs feel a bit heavy and burn a bit, which I've been told is normal. Still using the breathing thing to expand my lungs. Overall doing well. Ready for some energy to return. And I'd really like to get more protein in. One day at a time.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
