No vomiting but tons of belching

Recommended Posts

I got my sleeve on May 15 so that makes me nearly 7 weeks post op. During the day as I'm at work and am too busy I usually eat light foods such as yoghurt cheese or turkey slices and melon. At night when I'm home I cook for my husband and eat what the doctor has said is ok for me e.g. eggs, mince meat, fish, veggies etc something that has been cooked... however my portions are really small and as soon as I eat I feel gasses (bubbles) stuck in my chest and I'll feel like I've eaten a whole lamb. For the foods that sit heavy in my stomach I don't bother trying them again. But this happens every evening no matter what I eat, i get abdominal pain and I either have to lay down straight away or walk around until the gases are all out (lots and lots of burping) and the uncomfortable feelings goes away. I haven't vomited yet but I feel really sick. It takes about 45 minutes to subside. Has anyone else had this? What am I doing wrong?

Are you avoiding drinking Water at least 30 minutes before and after dinner? Are you drinking from a straw during the day at work?

I was sleeved on May 10 and the only time I have issues with gas is usually because of the above. (Or because I wore pants that were too tight all day.)

I do make sure not to drink before or after for at last half an hour and I'm not using a straw to drink....

I don't have an answer for you unfortunately, my surgery was 5/3 and I have the same issue :( Maybe eating too fast? That's definitely my problem... I'm supposed to only eat one bite every couple minutes and that's so hard to do.

I guess maybe that's the issue... I don't want to stay this way for weeks and weeks.. it's really uncomfortable

I just apparently ate too fast and have internal belching (if that makes sense) mostly gurgling .... I'll have to figure out the correct speed over the next few weeks because I have some discomfort in my chest right now. ????????????

You are eating too much too fast. Belching is natural and normal and even more so after a VSG. My guess is that you are pre portioning softer lunch foods and eating more dense foods for dinner and or not measuring out your two oz. 11 months out if I try to eat a dry chicken breast or salmon it sits like a rock compared to almost everything else I eat (eggs, cheese, yogurt, etc). Ironically pan fried bacon goes down easier (perhaps because there is more soft fat than in the chicken breasts).

I guess you're right. Thanks for the advice!

Need to train myself to change old habits.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
