Medications and Supplements.... how to keep track? How to carry with you?

Recommended Posts

I am just about 3 weeks out from my surgery. I have been on BP meds for most of my life. Fortunately, they are once a day and I am pretty good about taking them every day before bed (got a little crazy when I worked night shift and sometimes "bedtime was 36 hours later, and sometime 12). I do ok with twice a day meds when its for short periods, but when I have had to remember meds 3 or 4 times a day, I have trouble.

Now, I am looking at my supplement schedule - 6 times a day!!!!!

I don't think I will have too much trouble when I am at home with my fluid/food/supplement schedule in front of me, but I am worried about when I am getting out and about - especially when I go back to work.

What tips and tricks have you found that helps you remember to take your supplements in time? How do you carry them with you? What hasn't worked?

Thanks for your help!

I set my times for the day on my iPhone, after I take my first round. Every 2 hours and 15 min. I take a dose until done. If miss a dose or am late, I shift the med times back.

I have a pill container that has compartments. I put it in a pocket of a lunch bag (that I take everywhere). Inside the bag I start with 2 frozen bottles of Water and food, I might need while I'm out and about. I'm sure there are better systems but mine is simple and works for me.

Best of luck!

I use medisafe (pill reminder) on my phone.

I've been taking supplements for so long, I just do it both morning before work, and evening, after dinner. I also take 2 meds right before bed.

I do have an AM/PM pill container that I separate all my supplements and pills into. The PM side contains nothing but supplements. The 2 meds I take at bedtime I do in my upstairs bathroom right before getting into bed.

Pill dividers work great. You can get little ones for travel that you only need to put one or two pills in, or medium sized, or large size, or X-large size. They also have containers where the individual day container can be popped out and taken with you in your purse, or if travelling in your carry on.

I like the idea of a timer or alarm on your cell phone to remind you to take your pills. I don't need it because it's literally a habit now.

Good Luck!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
