I had a requirement from the hospital to have a driver and they had to sign a form. Although I was not up to long term visits it was nice for the short visits from family to just walk with me in the hall. Truthfully I mostly slept. Driving would have been impossible for me.

I'm an in-law and if I knew my daughter in-law was in the hospital having major surgery and nobody said anything I'd be hurt. Family takes care of family, it's not putting out its pulling together. It's what families are for!

Hello, did anyone here have to check-in alone? Drive to surgery, check themselves in, wake up, everything else, alone, without someone with them?

My husband won't be in town in time and I absolutely don't want to ask any of his family to take me. They would in a heart beat for sure if I asked but I'm the kind of person who hates to inconvenience others. I kind of think I'd be okay being alone?

I just wondered if anyone here was alone for surgery experience, or thoughts on not asking anyone to accompany me.

I think I'll be going alone too. Currently I'm ok with it, but I think once I'm there and things start happening I might cry.

I went alone and woke up alone. It really wasn't a big deal. I had my phone to keep my husband updated but otherwise his job was to stay with the kids and keep their routine normal. He came and picked me up the next day because even if they allowed it, I would t have even wanted to drive myself anywhere.

I found there really is no need for someone to be with me until I was discharged to drive me home. I've had at least 5 surgeries without visitors. It wasn't sad and I didn't cry. I had no desire to have visitors or socialize with family/friends. All I did for the 1 night I was in the hospital was sleep and have pain managed. It would have made me very uncomfortable to have visitors while I was hooked up to a catheter and using a bed pan.

Also if you have a shared room, having family/friends visiting could be inconsiderate towards the other patient who needs sleep. it's bad enough getting waked up by the nurses not only caring for myself but the other patient as well.

The hospital did require a 'responsible individual' to take me home. No Uber or taxi. They needed her name and phone number to contact when I was ready to be discharged.

I had to have someone with me when I checked in and he had to sign a form saying he would be responsible for getting me home as well. I wouldn't have been able to drive myself home anyway since I was taking narcotics for pain control.

I'll be flying to and from. Also I think someone will be picking me up at the airport, and driving me back. I believe it's a shuttle service over the border.

My mother in law drove me and walked me to the pre op waiting area then she went home. My husband came by after I was back in my room to visit and then again right before I went to sleep. Next day he came back after work and drove me home.

As everyone else has said, the biggest issue may be driving home... Check with your hospital. But I also know I wasn't up to driving home and if you've had any narcotic pain relief you can't drive till its out of your sudtemx

I did the whole thing alone as my immediate family lives far away and I didn't want to tell anyone else what I was up to. I WAS required to have someone pick me up, (no taxis, no ubers, no bus) so I eventually had to tell a nearby relative who also agreed to stay with me for a couple days post op. Honestly the whole procedure was easy peasy and you do so much sleeping and doping on pain meds that you won't really care so much about having people around. When I wasn't sleeping, I watched a little tv, texted people, or played on my tablet. It goes by really fast.

2 days after getting out of the hospital, I went clothes shopping. :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
