You're not having "FAT" surgery are you?

Recommended Posts

Today I went to my supervisor in order to put in my leave request for my surgery. If anyone is familiar with patient privacy laws then you know when doctors offices give you literature in reference to a procedure and its pretty general. When I took the paperwork to my supervisor "it" said "you are not having "FAT" surgery are you"? I almost cried, but I laughed it off and walked away. Has anyone ever had the same experience, I am pissed and don't know how to feel.

Your supervisor sounds like a jerk and very immature. Grade school personality. I wouldn't let it bother you. Just remember that this surgery is for YOU not them. If you don't want to share then it's really none of his business.

On the plus side at least you could genuinely say no. Because who the heck would have fat surgery? Your supervisor is a twit. You did the right thing laughing it off. People like that just like to see that they have caused discomfort with their comments. You take that away from them they've got nothing. Best of luck with you surgery, good luck avoiding idiots.

All I have to say, after your journey is on it's way, and your on your way to a new life. Maybe, you can leave this jerk in your rear view mirror. When your feeling better about yourself. I think you'll fine a whole lot of changes will come your way.

Thank you all for the insight. I was pissed at first, but now I see why they say misery loves company.

I'm sure the settlement will more than pay for your surgery.

Oh wow, that's so insensitive. Know you're doing whats best for you "it" can mind his own business. We get PTO at my job, dnt need to provide reasons for using them if u request them in a timely manner. If u provide a reason its for courtesy. I'm praying for a Sept sugery so i can request 2 weeks & its my bday month so no one will think anything of it.

Ignore that idiot. People like that should not be in mamagement. That is littlerely harassment. You do what you have to do. It is about your health. If it continues go above that person and ask is there is someone else you can report to

.... I'm mad.....

The agency that I work for is filled with imbecilic people that only got where they are because they knew someone. I digress, it cool because as long as I get my leave approval I'm good. And besides their not supposed to ask me what type of surgery I'm having anyway.

I didn't tell my employer. I filled out my FMLA paperwork and so did the doctor office. They just put down surgery. No codes or reasons. My HR director called me the other day and stated I can't ask you what your surgery is, but I see who your doctor is (so I'm assuming she googled him) and I just need to know if insurance is paying or if this is considered cosmetic because we can't approve FMLA if it's cosmetic. All I responded with is that insurance is paying their 80% and I'm paying my 20%. She said okay that is all I needed. But it does kind of tick me off the way she said "but I see who your doctor is". I mean he does gallbladder & much more. I have been trying to diet, eat right and exercise since Jan and have done some good, so I'm just sticking with telling folks that. At this time.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
