Hi ladies, I had my sleeve at RO Beaumont with Dr. Krause on March 25, 2016. It's been a little over 12 weeks and I'm down from 215 to 164. I feel great but the mental part of this journey is NO JOKE. I still struggle with the "loss of my coping mechanism"- food. My relationship with food has totally changed (it had to). It's no longer all that fun to eat, it's more of a necessity to fuel my body and brain. Good luck to all of you! That's funny what you say about Rachel- I met her for the first time last month and when she asked me my goal weight, I said 145 (I'm 5"3") and she said, " that's way too low". That's the first time anyone on the ROB team ever said that to me. Anyway, I'm doing me and losing what my body allows, I'm not focusing on a number or what she said. :) also I went thru the St. Clare Shores Beaumont team for my 6 month diet/nutrition appts. It was closer to my work and easier to go straight there after. I went to RO w/ Krause because that's who a coworker went with and he was pleased. I'm very happy with Dr Krause.

Wow. That's awesome! Great job. You lost alot quickly! 140-145 is my goal too. It was never told to me that was too low, even by her and I'm bigger than you were pre surgery. 145 is a great goal, quite reasonable and achievable. I really want 145 to be my maintenence weight. If i could get to 135 which is low but gives me wiggle room.

Sooo everybody is going with Krause huh? My friend referred me to Hawasli but I forgot his name and when they started naming Dr's I said yeah Krause I believe that's him. Lol. Anyways I told my friend later and she said that wasn't her Dr. Buuuut I already committed to Krause. Plus it rolled off the tongue so nicely. Then I did my research and read review after review after review that he was basically the man. Once I finally met him, I knew Id chosen the right surgeon. I'm glad you had a good experience.

Do tell more about the mental difficulties.

My aunt just had the procedure done in April and she used Krause. He's the chief surgeon for the department and he's been doing this the longest of all the doctors. I learned that during the info session. Two more days until my eval! I just want to know what the next steps are after that.

Had it done yesterday. At home now. Not too much pain. Pretty rough waking up with pain and nausea but they went down. Hardest part was going that first day with no liquids as my mouth was really dry. Just have a little soreness and am slowly taking down Water.

I was sleeved 5/10 at St John Providence by Dr Kerry Kole. He was awesome. I have three incisions and one through the belly button. I've lost 31 lbs (including my one week pre surgery diet weight loss). Overall down 40 lbs from my highest weight.

Second day since my surgery and everything seems good. Just a little soreness if I bend down. The pain is less than when I had my gallbladder removed. Only been able to drink Clear Liquids. Made it through a 20 oz glass of Gatorade. I think I'm supposed to start Protein Shakes tomorrow. I have had no desire to eat food since the surgery.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
