Tired and week looking forward to soft foods?

Recommended Posts

Been on my liquid diet for almost two weeks and feeling weak and tired with not much energy.

Does starting soft foods change this?

Usually it is just time passing after surgery that helps you not be so tired. The type of food doesn't make much of a difference. You can get all the physical energy you need from the stored fat in your fat cells, but surgery makes people extremely tired for several weeks after, no matter what they are eating. Have patience and treat yourself kindly and your energy will eventually come back.

Week three was my magic turn around. I was just starting purees but I think the surgery took more out of me than the lack of food. I was getting all the nutrition I needed with Protein drinks, but the diet itself was boring as hell.

The more I walked, the better I felt, the better I slept (although insomnia lasted about 7-8 months) and I felt less foggy minded.

Be good to yourself but don't go too easy on yourself. Move your body, force your liquids and try to get proper rest. This will pass!

It takes time. Your body is healing and that itself takes a lot of energy. Once you heal more and get some more calories you will feel better

Thank you for the replies. I will meet with my doctor and NUT on Monday.

I have been drinking Celebrate and powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury with 1% milk as directed and I am tired of the thin consistency of these mixes. Going to add a Premier Protein shake for something a little thicker today.

Thanks again

I'm going through that phase now also.... it really hits me late in the afternoon..... I take a nap and usually feel better... it should pass within a week or two from what I have read.... good luck...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
